Each month, there is a different Port of Call theme. This month, the theme is Lima, Peru.

Lima is a longstanding, historic city rich in culture and attractions for tourists to see. Founded on January 18, 1535 by Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, Lima was given the nickname “The City of Kings” because the discovery date was close to the Epiphany, a popular Christian festival. Today, Lima is home to over 8 million people, and hosts a blend of cultural and architectural influences from the different civilizations over the years.

Each month, the participating affiliated communities will host the monthly Port of Call program. Port of Call is a Life Enrichment program designed to educate the residents with food, games, activities, and fun based on a different country or city.

Our Port-of-Call this month is LIMA, PERU. We had a special visitor from our friends at The Crafty Alpaca: Beatle!

Alpacas are native to Peru, although they are found all over South America. It's a good thing we got to feel the soft, fluffy fur, because Beatle gets his summer shearing soon!

Thanks to Mary and Bonnie for bringing him to see us! He just gets in the van and off he goes.

Today is National Purple Up Day! This day is dedicated to honor US military children for the sacrifices they make. Purple symbolizes the colors of each branch of the military mixed together!💜
