Think hearing loss only comes with age? Think again.

Many people are surprised to learn that uncontrolled high blood pressure, not just aging, may have an impact on your hearing. Yep, hypertension doesn’t just affect your heart or brain; it may also damage the delicate hearing organs in your inner ear. Over time, reduced blood flow and oxygen to the ear can lead to noticeable changes in hearing.

If you're managing high blood pressure and have started saying "What?" more often than you'd like, don’t brush it off. Your ears might be telling you something important.

And don’t forget to talk to your primary care doctor about keeping that blood pressure in check.

"When posed with this question an immediate answer was not forthcoming. I think it’s fair to say that my “Why” has probably changed 100 times over since 2005 when I began this journey and received my apprenticeship license. I later went on to become state licensed in 2007 and nationally board certified in 2019. During that time frame my “Why” changed, changed and changed again.

With every season of life, my “why” changes. At times it has been to provide a roof over my children’s head, to put food on our table and gas in our cars. It has been to buy concert tickets or go on vacation but the one thing, the one reason that has always remained steadfast is that I truly wanted and continue to want to make a difference. To share the love of God and to leave people better than when they walked in my office. I come from a long history of family whose heart is to serve others, to make a difference. I grew up with that being my shining example. It’s the Golden rule. I saw it in my grandparents, my parents, my aunts and uncles and cousins and being from a small town the love they have shown to our community left a legacy of blessings along the way. That’s who they are, that is who I am. I practice in hopes of continuing that spirit of love to a community that I cherish and to be an example to my children so they in their own way can continue to make a difference in the lives that cross their paths."
