The mission of Keep Your Heart at Home Care is to support individuals and their families, but I pose a question: did Governor Andy Berkshire take into account the needs of those who would require in-home care upon returning home? I for one did not .
My experience volunteering with tornado victims, who have suffered unimaginable losses, has led me to realize the significance of this issue. These individuals rarely seek help, and when we were contacted by the hospital, they asked if we knew of anyone who could provide financial assistance. I replied that I was unaware of any such resources, but I could offer my services pro bono. This experience has shed light on the frequently overlooked aspects of disaster relief, such as the ongoing care required by those affected. As a society, we often focus on immediate needs like cleanup, rebuilding, and temporary housing, while neglecting the long-term support required by individuals whose lives have been forever changed. As a business owner and human being, it is gratifying to know that we can provide assistance, but it also highlights the need for a comprehensive plan to support these individuals in the event of future disasters.
