TO MASK OR NOT TO MASK, THAT IS THE QUESTION
Friends,
Governor Andy Beshear's regulation requiring masks in public places where social distancing is difficult went into effect at 5:00pm today. I am aware that among other exemptions, the order expressly exempts "Any person who is actively participating in athletic practice, scrimmage, or competition that is permitted under separate Healthy at Work requirements or guidance...", meaning that if all the other requirements for reopening are being met, then masks are not required. So what to do?
I have decided that for the time being, masks will still be required for in-person participation at Awake Yoga. There is still so much unknown about how this novel corona virus is transmitted and there is conflicting information between the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control, and the medical profession concerning aerosolized particles that can invade the lungs through the breath. What we do know is that in the areas where masks have been required, the community spread has dramatically slowed. Your health, your safety, and your peace of mind are my top priority. It isn't the easiest decision but it is the right thing to do. As a friend of mine reminded me today, our job right now may solely be to be compassionate toward others by wearing a mask. That's such a small thing to be asked of us.
I hope that you will continue to offer your support to Awake Yoga and other small businesses that are struggling to stay open during these trying days.
