🐾 Sometimes it truly takes a village 🐾
Meet Shepherd 💙 At just 2 years old, this sweet bully mix arrived at Memphis Animal Services, withdrawn and hurting from years of painful, untreated ear infections.
Thanks to the kindness of a generous foster and benefactor, Mr. S. , Shepherd’s story took a turn. Mr. S. stepped in to make sure Shepherd received the care he so desperately needed, starting with Dr. Tracy Gullet at Northgate Animal Hospital. From there, Shepherd was referred to Memphis Veterinary Specialists, where dermatologist Dr. Tina Brown confirmed the only way to alleviate his pain, was surgery.
Under the skilled hands of our surgery team, Shepherd underwent a staged, bilateral subtotal ear canal ablation surgery (sTECA). This life-changing procedure removed the diseased part of ear canals, freeing him from the chronic infections that caused so much pain and discomfort almost immediately. These surgeries were staged meaning that one side was done on one day and a few days later the other side was performed. During Shepherd’s stay at MVS his true personality began to shine. For the first time, he allowed people to pet his face without showing signs of pain allowing him to play, trust, and soak up all the love around him.
In the most beautiful twist, one of his caretakers at North Shelby Animal Hospital fell in love with him — and gave him his forever home. Today, “Shep” is living the happy, pain-free life he always deserved. Shepherd’s journey is proof that when a community comes together, lives are transformed.
✨ Thank you to everyone who played a part in Shep’s happy ending.✨
