A couple of weekends ago, several staff members of our Mid-South Transplant Foundation team had the opportunity to participate in this year’s Southern Heritage Classics Weekend — connecting with the community through inside events and the annual parade!

The weekend was filled with energy, culture, and great college football, but most importantly, meaningful conversations about the power of organ and tissue donation.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, waved during the parade, or shared your support. We love being part of this amazing Memphis tradition each year and look forward to celebrating again next time!

OCTOBER FEATURE - A Gentle Reminder with a Powerful Message

Each month, our calendar spotlights a community leader who helps us spread the word about the importance of organ and tissue donation. For October, we’re honored to feature Memphis Mayor, Paul Young, reminding us all:
“Should you register? YES YOU SHOULD.”

Sharing your decision to become a registered donor with your loved ones is one of the most important conversations you can have. Don’t leave your family uncertain—let them know your wishes and allow your legacy to give hope to someone else.

Thank you, , for being a part of this lifesaving campaign and encouraging others to register.

Be a blessing. Be the reason someone gets a second chance at life. Register to be an organ and tissue donor today at:

Happy

Before being diagnosed with kidney disease at four years old, Philip Jones Jr.’s complications stemmed from a post-strep throat illness. From post-strep throat to full-blown seizures, his doctors identified the underlying cause of his now kidney disease diagnosis. As years passed, he began dialysis for a few years and got the call for his kidney transplant at 16. A few years later, as a theater major in college, his life turned upside down from a trip to Arizona with his theater team that began the journey of his kidney rejecting and soon after going back on dialysis. Now 12 years on dialysis, Philip joins ARTavius and chats about his journey to transplantation on the sixth episode of the “Stories of Hope podcast.”

Repost from Tri-State Defender:
Coffee & Conversations-hosted by the Mid-South Transplant Foundation-became a space for stories of heartbreak and hope, all centered on the life-changing power of organ and tissue donation.

Among those voices was Barbara Edmond, who shared the story of her son, Reginald Mercer IV. Mercer tragically died at age 26 in a car accident, but through organ donation, he saved multiple lives.

“It hurts every day,” Edmond said. “But knowing that someone else has a chance to live because of him, that’s what keeps me going!”
