DECEMBER FEATURE - A Gentle Reminder with a Powerful Message

Each month, our calendar spotlights a community leader who helps us spread the word about the importance of organ and tissue donation. For December, we’re honored to feature Pastor Tyrone Hunt, reminding us all:
“Should you register? YES YOU SHOULD.”

Sharing your decision to become a registered donor with your loved ones is one of the most important conversations you can have. Don’t leave your family uncertain—let them know your wishes and allow your legacy to give hope to someone else.

Thank you, Pastor Hunt, for being a part of this lifesaving campaign and encouraging others to register.

Be a blessing. Be the reason someone gets a second chance at life. Register to be an organ and tissue donor today at:

Your registration counts as a legal, binding document that cannot be overturned by a family member. You can update and/or change your decision at any time. Once you’ve made the decision to be a donor, we encourage you to tell your family.

Give hope. Give life.

The LGBTQIA+ Community can provide HOPE for HIV-positive patients in need of organ transplants.

The HOPE Act provides transplant opportunities for candidates with HIV who are willing to accept organs from donors identified as HIV-positive. We encourage everyone to register their donation decision. For more information about registering to become an organ and tissue donor, visit www.MidsouthTransplant.org.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
The holidays are the toughest times of the year for some people. Instead of dwelling on what isn’t anymore, let’s shift the focus to what is now. Despite the hardship of a loss, we can practice being grateful for all the memories we’ve shared with those we’ve lost and move forward in gratitude.

Being a registered organ and tissue donor certifies that if something happens to you, a piece of you (your legacy) will live on through others with the gift of transplantation; Giving HOPE and a second chance at LIFE.

November is Native American Heritage Month. In alignment with this year’s theme of Tribal sovereignty, we acknowledge the importance of empowering Native communities to make informed choices about organ, eye, and tissue donation. Just as Tribal sovereignty preserves the right of self-governance, the act of donation ensures the continuation of traditions of generosity and care, values that are deeply rooted in Native cultures. We aim to honor these traditions through partnership and consultation while ensuring equitable access to lifesaving healthcare.
This month, we highlight the contributions of Native American donors and donor families whose selfless gifts have saved countless lives. We also raise awareness about the pressing need for organ, eye and tissue donors within Native American communities. Native Americans and Alaska Natives currently make up approximately 2% of the U.S. population, with over 900 American Indians/Alaska Natives on the national organ transplant waiting list-representing about 1% of the total list.

November is Eye Donation Month! Did you know: ‘eye donation’ doesn’t mean the entire eye is donated and transplanted. Only the cornea (the clear, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye) is recovered and transplanted, restoring sight for those with cornea-related blindness. Each year, millions of people around the world have their lives transformed through cornea donation and transplantation.
