Dr Wendy Holliday I am a physical therapist with a special interest in clinical bike fitting.

Dr Wendy Holliday
BSc Physiotherapy, PhD Exercise Science, NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist. After working in clinical practice for over ten years I decided to pursue post-graduate studies with a focus on cycling biomechanics. My passion is combining my PT experience with cycling research to conduct clinical bike fits for those who are either injured or uncomfortable on the bike. I enjoy working not only with the athlete but also with the Doctor, PT and coach to ensure the athlete is in their best form for training and racing. I have worked with beginner riders who wish just to be comfortable, through to some of South Africa’s top mountain bikers and triathletes, as well as World pro teams, including UAE Team Emirates. I look forward to working with NC’s cyclists, whether beginner or competitive!

Do you set up your triathletes differently depending on what they are training for? Let’s discuss this!

Here are some of my thoughts:
🚴🏽‍♂️ Comfort and Durability: Comfort becomes paramount for the extended duration of a full Ironman race. Ensuring a proper bike fit and ergonomic setup is crucial. For a half Ironman, comfort is still important but may be balanced with a slightly more aggressive position for speed.
🚴🏽‍♀️ Comfort and Adaptability for Beginners: For beginners, prioritizing comfort and adaptability is crucial. A comfortable bike fit helps new triathletes acclimate to the demands of long-distance racing. Adjustable components such as saddle position and aerobars allow beginners to find their optimal riding position as they gain experience and flexibility.
🚴🏽‍♂️ Aerodynamics and Efficiency: Aerodynamics play a significant role in both race distances, but efficiency becomes even more critical in a full Ironman due to the extended duration. Balancing aerodynamics with comfort and power output is essential for both race distances.
