The value of meditation in the cultivation of an integrated life has been recognized throughout the centuries and across cultures. In this session, we will contemplate why and in what way this is true from a perspective associated with traditional yoga.

We will have two resources. One will be a set of short passages in Bill’s translation from a set of teachings that point out the interconnectedness of the physical and subtle dimensions of personhood. The second will be our own contemplations emerging in short periods of quiet reflection guided by those passages.

Brief preview: the teachings we will consider hold that, although we may not always realize it, our very being in all its dimensions arises from a universal power of affirmation and joy.



William K. Mahony, PhD, travels nationally and internationally to lead seminar workshops and spiritual retreats for the larger yoga community. Bill has published several books on the religions of India and has a deep appreciation for the yogic life grounded in five decades of his own spiritual practice. He has recently retired as a professor of Religious Studies at Davidson College, where he taught for 40 years. For more information, see his website: wkmahony.com

Weight Issues, Brain Health & Stress Management - Using Mindful Eating & Meditation to influence your Gut Health”

You’ve made it this far without one more thing to take care of! Why should you start caring about your gut microbiome now?
Turns out over the last decade researchers have learned a lot about the trillions of microorganisms that make up our gut microbiome. These gut microbes predispose us to or protect us from many health challenges like weight/bloating issues, managing daily stress, and keeping our brains healthy as we age. The great news is that we can influence the diversity and health of our gut microbes through what we eat (or don’t eat). And it’s not hard to do!

Meditation positively affects our gut microbiome by targeting and reducing stress. We all have daily stressors and our ability to process stress mentally, emotionally, and physically varies. In our journey, you’ll learn more about the science of calm and we will practice daily meditation. You get to choose the amount of time - between 10 to 30 minutes/day.

I’m weaving these two topics (Mindful Eating and Meditation) into a fun and interesting Mini-Curious Wise Women and I hope you will join me and a great group of other interesting women!

Wow! How is it that fall is already around the corner? 🍁🍂 I’ve been spending these HOT summer months dreaming up new twists on your favorite programs. If you’re ready to cool off your gut and sharpen your mind for a fresh fall start, there’s something on the docket for you! My offerings this fall will be:

1. *Mini* Curious Wise Women: What’s “GUT” got to do with it? - That’s right, a more “bite-size” CWW course that’s focused on fine-tuning our gut to help with weight issues, brain health and stress management. I’m so excited about this one especially after hearing so much interest from you all about digging into what makes our gut tick. (September 18-October 20)

2. Traditional Ayurveda Food Cleanse: For fans of this gentle, seasonal cleanse, we’re back in action this fall. Cleanse and nourish your body with nutritious foods in a supportive environment. (October 9-20)

3. NEW! “I Don’t Do Cleanses” Food Reboot: Are you in the “I don’t do cleanses” camp? Try this more lenient reboot instead. Don’t get me wrong, we’ll still clean up our food choices, but there will be more options for raw and cooked foods. We’ll work on eating the right foods so you’re NOT hungry between meals and don’t feel deprived. Think of the “I Don’t Do Cleanses” Food Reboot as dipping your toe into the waters of health eating. Only a few days left until the Eating for the Season Workshop at Tejas Yoga Lab Cornelius in Cornelius!

Ayurveda offers a variety of herbs and spices that support pain-free digestion, mental clarity, calmness, and a strong immune system. Some herbs are good for everyone while others are best for particular “constitutions.”

If you are new to Ayurveda, “constitutions” or “doshas” are 3 categories (Vata, Pitta, Kapha) that govern how you digest anything you take in (food, thoughts, emotions) and how you respond to stress.

It is fun to learn how to use herbs for optimal health and wellness. One example is an herb that benefits just about everyone: tulsi, commonly called holy basil. One of the most sacred plants in India, tulsi calms anxiety, builds digestive fire, purifies the blood of toxins, and reduces phlegm/congestion. (If you have a medical condition, ask your doctor’s advice before making any dietary changes.)

Join me for an afternoon of learning how to transform your pantry into a treasure trove of healthy herbs, spices, and food for your whole family.

Natural good health requires us to respect and honor the seasons of a year and the seasons of our lives. Cleansing guides the process of resetting our digestion and supports the gradual removal of excess toxins from our tissues as we move from the hot/pitta summer into the cool/vata fall.
