When you have asthma, it's important to know your zone, and have a plan for what to do if you feel worse.

You're in the green zone if you're doing well with no wheeze, cough, chest tightness, or shortness of breath. You may be getting worse if you're coughing or wheezing, have chest tightness, and cannot participate in all usual activities.

You're in the red zone and need immediate medical attention if you are very short of breath and cannot participate in any usual activities.

Talk to your doctor to develop a plan for what to watch for and what actions you need to take in each zone.

Caregiving often means putting everyone else first, but your well being is a vital part of your family’s health story. This month, we’re honoring the generations of women who have carried us forward and acknowledging that taking care of yourself is just as important.

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate the caregivers, the multitaskers, and the late night problem solvers while we encourage you to make space for your own health along the way. Learn some simple strategies in our blog:

Adventist Health is a faith-based, nonprofit, integrated health system serving more than 90 communities on the West Coast and Hawaii with over 400 sites of care, including 26 acute care facilities.

Finding a provider you trust to care for your family is one of the most important decisions you can make. That’s why we’re grateful to have physicians like Dr. Denise Abbasi, a dedicated pediatric specialist who cares for children of all ages at our medical offices in Paradise and Corning.

Patients consistently highlight Dr. Abbasi’s kindness, compassion and her ability to make both children and parents feel heard and at ease. We’re proud to recognize the exceptional care she provides by sharing just a few of the many grateful comments we’ve received from families in our community:

“Dr. Abbasi is phenomenal — the best pediatrician my kids have ever had, and I have five kids.”
“Dr. Abbasi is absolutely amazing.”
“I recommend Abbasi to absolutely everyone due to her kindness and consideration.”
“She listens to everything that is going on — all their symptoms — and looks for every possible conclusion.”
“She is a very personable and knowledgeable provider. I feel very comfortable with my daughters under her care.”
“Dr. Abbasi is an incredible listener. She works with parents using recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and always takes the time to get to the root of an issue. I’m always confident my children are receiving the very best care.”

Dr. Abbasi cares for children from birth through adolescence and into young adulthood, providing focused attention on the unique healthcare needs of every stage of childhood. She views guiding, educating and nurturing patients from infancy to adulthood as both a calling and a privilege.

Families recognize her ability to truly listen — and to translate what she learns into personalized care that brings confidence and peace of mind to parents and guardians alike.

Dr. Abbasi is fluent in English, Spanish and French, helping her connect with a diverse range of families in our community.

“Colorectal cancer is common and preventable,” says James H. Tabibian, MD, PhD, FACP, Interventional Gastroenterology. “Most adults at average risk should begin screening at age 45, but those with higher risk factors, such as inflammatory bowel disease, family history, or certain genetic syndromes, may need to start earlier.”

Colonoscopy is the gold standard, but screening should be personalized.
Timely screening saves lives. Visit AdventistHealth.org/ColonScreening and talk with a healthcare professional to learn more about what’s right for you.

What are colon polyps? Are they dangerous? Regular screenings can help find colon polyps and get them removed before they potentially develop into cancer. Visit AdventistHealth.org/ColonScreening to learn more about colon health.

Looking to lower your risk of colon cancer? Start with more fiber.

Tina Storage, MD, Gastroenterology, Functional GI, shares how fiber protects the colon by reducing toxin contact, improving microbiome diversity, and keeping the colon lining healthy.
