🧡 “Autism is part of my child, but it’s not everything they are. My child is so much more than a diagnosis.” — paraphrased from S.L. Coelho

This message reminds us that every autistic person is a whole, vibrant individual — not defined by labels, but celebrated for their unique strengths, interests, and personality.

Let’s shift the narrative from limitation to love. From diagnosis to dignity. From assumptions to appreciation.

Every child deserves to be seen for who they truly are — and that’s always more than a single word.

Scholarship Opportunity for Autistic Students Pursuing Their Dreams

Matthew Paul Finnigan was a bright college student with a passion for Math, Chemistry, Statistics, and a growing interest in Psychiatry and Psychology. He hoped to use his talents to support research that would help adolescents on the Autism Spectrum. Although Matthew’s life was tragically cut short, his legacy lives on through a scholarship created in his honor.

In an essay written just days before his passing, Matthew reflected:
“You have a legacy that will live on as long as there are stories about you being told.”
He also reminded us to “always look on the bright side of life.”

The Matthew Paul Finnigan Memorial Scholarship is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 school year. Three scholarships, ranging from $1,000–$2,000, will be awarded.
Eligibility, applicants must:
• Have an Autism spectrum diagnosis
• Be full-time or part-time students pursuing a career in:
– Psychiatry
– Psychology
– Chemistry
– Math
– Statistics

– Or a field supporting adolescents on the Autism Spectrum
• Be a graduating senior or a California high school graduate accepted into a post-secondary, undergraduate, or vocational-technical program

Deadline: April 24, 2026
Winners announced: May 12, 2026 (in honor of Matthew’s birthday)

You will need to upload:
• A letter of recommendation

Autism Society Inland Empire

Our Mission. The mission of the Autism Society Inland Empire (ASIE) is to improve the lives of all affected by an autism spectrum disorder. We do this by increasing public awareness about the day-to-day issues faced by people on the spectrum, advocating for appropriate services for individuals across the lifespan, and providing the latest information regarding treatment, education, research, support, and advocacy.

Our Philosophy. Our efforts are focused on meaningful participation and self-determination in all aspects of life for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. We promote individual, parental and guardian choice to assure that people on the autism spectrum are treated with dignity and respect. It is our belief that no single program or treatment will benefit all individuals with autism. Furthermore, the recommendation of what is “best” or “most effective” for a person with autism should be determined by those people directly involved – the individual with autism, to the extent possible, and the parents or family members.
