As more school districts reopen, you’re going to see more school buses on the road. Did you know that under California law, you cannot drive past a stopped school bus when children are loading or unloading?
Keep your eyes open! Flashing yellow lights on the school bus means they are getting ready to stop and let children off the bus – you should slow down and prepare to stop. If you see flashing red lights at the top front and back of the bus and the “stop sign arm” is extended, you must stop from either direction on the road until children are across the street safely. Once the lights stop flashing, you can start driving…but make sure everyone is off the street.
