So what do you do when you can't sit but NEED to go see the Frisco Snow Cone Lady? You lay in the back seat.
If you don't know, I have been on a long physical journey. Three years ago I went in for hip surgery and due to an "incident" when I was transferred to my car l have been dealing with disabling injuries. I have had 4 surgeries in the past 3 years and more back and tailbone injections than I can even count. This culminated in a coccygectomy in February. Part of the recovery from having your tailbone removed, is that you can't sit. Due to complications, I am still not sitting.
So have you ever thought about what you would do if you can't sit. Well let me tell you I think about this daily. "But" (pun intended) I have also gotten creative.
Eating out - well, that doesn't happen, you get to know what food tastes good delivered
Visiting the Frisco Snow Cone Lady... so I lay in the backseat on the way to and from all appointments and such. The Snow Cone Lady has been my "I AM ABOUT TO LOSE IT and NEED SOMETHING NORMAL" visit. I recommend Rainbow with Sour. I realize that the sugar isn't great for me, BUT I think of it as AWESOME therapy.
Visiting with friends - I have friends over or make sure they have a couch space I can lay on
Shopping - thank GOD for Amazon.com and online ordering for Groceries. Recently I have started being able to do mini shopping trips. I just went to Target for the first time in 4 months. Oh, the Dollar SPOT!!!! I did have to go home and rest for a bit after.
Traveling - well not happening now... so I am stuck in the hellish summer heat.
Dr's visits - I travel with my pillow and have been known to go a little Karen when I have to wait too long, because I have to stand, and I can only do that so long.... If another person in a Dr's office asks me to TAKE A SEAT, I will scream.
Driving - so if you can't sit, you can't drive. So my Mom has once again been a "kid" chauffeur to her 52 year old child. I literally would be stuck in the house without her and my friend chauffeurs.
Pool - so during Texas summers, swimming pools are LIFE... Since my incision keeps opening back up, I am not allowed in the pool.... thus the visits to the Snow Cone Lady!!!
Staying busy & Work - this has been the hardest thing for me over the past 3 years. I worked hard to become an SLP and LOVE being an SLP.
While I can't do my job now, I have found some ways to stay busy and share my passion. 1) I opened up an Etsy store creating all kinds of SLP and AAC items. https://talkbackshop.etsy.com 2) I created and recorded an AAC training program, that I wanted to do for years. 3) Creating speech/AAC resources for TPT and Boom Learning. 4) trying not to freak out about not knowing what my future will bring.
So as you go about sitting today, remember that sometimes the most basic things are truly a blessing. Enjoy a good sit for me. I hope I can join you soon!
