Every week I remove skin cancers from patients. Here I am removing a basal cell carcinoma from a patient’s nose — the most common skin cancer we treat. ☀️ About 1 in 5 people will develop skin cancer, often from years of sun exposure.

I’ll keep saying it: wear sunscreen (yes, the zinc kind), reapply, and wear a hat. But hey… fine, don’t listen to me. 😎 It’s job security for us dermatologists.

Sunscreens for kids. As a dermatologist, my top sunscreens for kids this summer are zinc-based—meaning they’re mineral sunscreens—which provide excellent broad-spectrum protection. I recommend choosing formulas with SPF 50 or higher for maximum coverage. My favorite brands include Blue Lizard Sensitive, EltaMD Sport, and ISDIN Eryfotona Actinica Fusion Body. For added support, I also love the Glow gummies, which are safe for kids as young as three. Just take two gummies every four hours as needed, starting one hour before sun exposure. Protecting your little ones’ skin has never been easier!

P.s. neutrogena also has great mineral stick sunscreens. It has a lower SPF so I find if I go past the 2 hour reapplication time my son gets sunburned.

🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻Passed the MOHS board exam. So grateful to God 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻. It wasn’t easy to study again having been out of school for over 12 years and as a working mom and wife. However, looking back at all the sacrifice of time away from my family and friends, it WAS worth it. It definitely didn’t feel worth it at the time. As with most good things in life, like marriage ir parenting, it’s a lot of hard work and intentional sacrifice, but looking back it will be and is worth it.
