HYPE BEAUTY treatments to AVOID if you have melasma:

***Topical Estrogen***
***Infrared Sauna***

Heat, hormones, and UV and Visible light make melasma worse, which is why these treatments should be avoided. Its okay to expose the body to the red light therapy, but avoid the face if you struggle with melasma brown hyperpigmentation of your face.

Every week I remove skin cancers from patients. Here I am removing a basal cell carcinoma from a patient’s nose — the most common skin cancer we treat. ☀️ About 1 in 5 people will develop skin cancer, often from years of sun exposure.

I’ll keep saying it: wear sunscreen (yes, the zinc kind), reapply, and wear a hat. But hey… fine, don’t listen to me. 😎 It’s job security for us dermatologists.

Sunscreens for kids. As a dermatologist, my top sunscreens for kids this summer are zinc-based—meaning they’re mineral sunscreens—which provide excellent broad-spectrum protection. I recommend choosing formulas with SPF 50 or higher for maximum coverage. My favorite brands include Blue Lizard Sensitive, EltaMD Sport, and ISDIN Eryfotona Actinica Fusion Body. For added support, I also love the Glow gummies, which are safe for kids as young as three. Just take two gummies every four hours as needed, starting one hour before sun exposure. Protecting your little ones’ skin has never been easier!

P.s. neutrogena also has great mineral stick sunscreens. It has a lower SPF so I find if I go past the 2 hour reapplication time my son gets sunburned.
