It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved volunteer and friend, Merle “Ed” Huston. We were saddened to learn today that Ed passed away on December 27.

Ed was a dedicated member of the Mission of Mercy family since July 2008, faithfully serving our organization every week for more than 17 years. He played an essential role by entering patient data from paper files into our system, helping support our ability to provide free medical, vision, dental, and mental health care to those in need. His commitment, reliability, and quiet dedication left a lasting impact on our mission and on countless lives.

In recognition of his extraordinary service, Ed was honored as the first-ever recipient of the Mission of Mercy Volunteer Excellence Award in 2015. We ask that you keep Ed’s family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. He will be deeply missed, and his legacy of service will forever remain part of Mission of Mercy.

We are truly grateful. 💛

“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’” – Mary Anne Radmacher

We see this quiet courage in our patients every single day — in showing up, in taking the next step, and in choosing to keep going even when it’s hard. At Mission of Mercy, we want you to know that when tomorrow comes, we will be here. Ready to help, ready to serve, and ready to support every patient with compassion, dignity, and care. 💙

No matter the challenge, you are not alone. We are honored to walk alongside our patients today, tomorrow, and every step of the journey toward healing.

According to the American Diabetes Association, 1.2 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year. Managing diabetes can be challenging, but with the right education and support, healthier outcomes are possible. 💙

At Mission of Mercy, we are committed to helping individuals take control of their health. We offer diabetes management classes, nutrition education, and healthy cooking classes to support those living with diabetes. Through our partnership with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension’s Diabetes Education Program, patients receive trusted education and resources to better understand and manage their condition.

Additionally, through our partnership with H-E-B, we provide patients with home Diabetes Management Kits. These kits include an H-E-B insulated bag, a glucose monitor, testing strips, diabetes educational materials, and a logbook to track readings and communicate with our medical team — helping patients stay informed and engaged in their care.

If you or someone you love is living with diabetes and needs support, we’re here to help. Contact us to learn how to get involved and take the next step toward healthier living.

“Always remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” – A.A. Milne

This quote beautifully reflects the strength we see in our patients every single day. Choosing to seek care, face challenges, and keep moving forward takes courage, resilience, and determination. Our patients inspire us with their bravery, their strength in the face of uncertainty, and their wisdom in prioritizing their health and well-being.

At Mission of Mercy, we are honored to walk alongside our patients on their healing journey — offering support, compassion, and hope every step of the way. You are never alone, and your strength does not go unnoticed. 💙 Together, we believe in brighter days, healthier futures, and the power of community.
