As birth workers, we know the numbers. We know that many of our clients are survivors.
To be a birth worker is to believe in the value of women. It is to believe in their power. And most importantly, it is to believe the voice of women.
As many survivors grapple with the steady stream of triggering news, we want to remind birth workers of our role. We are to believe women. We are to trust women. We are to hold space for women.
Being a birth worker is to know there are systems that make it possible not just to harm children and women, but to experience little to no consequences for the harm caused.
It is to know that when women seek our support for vulnerable experiences like birth and postpartum we must hold appropriate space for all that might come up in those times.
As birth workers, we must be clear that we are safe. That we believe women. That we value women. That regardless of what systems and justice systems say, we believe women and know they deserve better.
If you are a survivor, we see you. We believe you. We're holding space for you. We will speak up for you.
