An apicoectomy is a minor surgical procedure that removes the tip of a tooth’s root (apex) and any surrounding infected tissue. It’s typically done when a root canal treatment has failed and reinfection occurs. The main benefits include preserving the natural tooth, eliminating persistent infection, and preventing the need for tooth extraction or more extensive dental procedures. In this case we retreated the root canal in 2022 with GentleWave irrigation and found some accessory canals. 1.5 years later lateral lesions were still present. Discussed and did an apicoectomy with lateral canal fills and bone grafting. Patient presented for 9 month follow up with no symptoms and no signs of infection returning.
