We are closely monitoring the measles outbreak in Texas and are following all appropriate recommendations. Please take a look at the article attached for more information on measles.
Here is a summary of recommendations for measles protection. Our offices will update our patients' families if any updates are recommended for your child's immunizations.
Current recommendations for measles prevention:
Children should get two doses of MMR vaccine
-first dose at 12 to 15 months of age
-second dose at 4 through 6 years of age.
Recommendations if in a measles outbreak community:
-Infants ages 6 to 11 months:
Administer an early dose of measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine.
-Children over 12 months old:
If the child has received one dose, administer the second dose as soon as possible, at least 28 days after the first.
The recent measles outbreaks have many parents concerned. Most of the people who have gotten sick were not vaccinated against measles. This is a stark reminder of the importance of making sure your children are fully vaccinated. Learn more here.
