I’m beaming with pride as we wrap up Weekend 2 with the incredible Delta State University students and alumni, this time virtually! 💻💚

Throughout this weekend, trainees shared reflections that reminded me why I love this work so deeply:
🌱 Growing their competency to support clients who have experienced trauma
💪 Feeling empowered through practicing Resource Development and Future Template
🧠 Standing in awe of the capabilities of the human brain

✨ Weekend 2 of our CompassionWorks, LLC EMDRIA-Approved EMDR Training has officially wrapped! ✨

My heart is full as we close another weekend of transformative learning, connection, and healing energy within our Distinctive offices in Corpus Christi, Texas. Each trainee stepped further into the art of EMDR therapy, blending science, compassion, and the rhythm of the therapeutic relationship.

Dr. Shapiro's words resonated with me particularly this weekend as we explored the nuances of working with specific populations, clients with complex trauma, and what to do when processing isn't clean, “Clinical work with EMDR is a dance — and the client is the one who leads.” (Shapiro, 2018, p. 346) 💫

Day 4 ✅ | Weekend 2 of the CompassionWorks EMDRIA Approved EMDR Basic Training at Distinctive Counseling & Consulting.

Today’s highlight? Watching an incredible training video featuring Jordan Shafer, founder of CompassionWorks and an EMDRIA-approved trainer, who was personally trained by Francine Shapiro, the founder of EMDR therapy herself.

Such a powerful reminder that we’re learning from a direct lineage of EMDR excellence. Inspiring!💡💙

We’re deepening our skills, growing our confidence, and getting more and more excited to bring this life-changing work to our clients.

ACES filled my cup.

I earned 8 CEUs in teaching, research, and supervision; soaked up sessions on rural mental health, social determinants of mental health, the “expert myth” in research, CACREP standards, trauma-informed teaching, and preparing counselors for real-world practice online.

I also co-presented with Associate Professor Dr. Mandy Baraka on “Beyond Words: Sandtray Use in Supervision to Enhance CIT Cognitive Complexity, Self-Efficacy, and Compassion,” sharing the supervision practice of Vanessa Fawn Colbourn’s and her use of six hats + sandtray approach and our mixed-methods preliminary findings on CIT self-efficacy, self-compassion, and cognitive complexity. Seeing Walden colleagues and four of my doc students made it extra special. Grateful and ready for what’s next!
