🇺🇸🏈 The Super Bowl is one of the greatest American traditions we have.
And what makes it special is that it’s supposed to be a UNITING tradition — not a divisive one.
For one night, people from all walks of life gather around the same game, the same commercials, the same halftime show, the same snacks, the same laughter, the same friendly rivalries. We cheer. We groan. We celebrate. We connect.
It should never be turned into something political.
It should never be turned into something hateful.
And let me just say this: Bad Bunny’s performance was invigorating. The kind of performance that makes even the stiffest person want to dance. Joyful. Alive. Electric. And the fact that he included all flags at the end? That was a powerful reminder of what America is supposed to represent.
I’ll admit… I’m sad my Patriots didn’t show up the way I wanted. 😩
But I’m also proud of the Seahawks for making history.
But what really got to me tonight was receiving a text offering me an “option” to watch a more “American” alternative to the halftime show.
That appalls me.
As an American.
As an Irish-American.
As a mom.
As a wife.
As a daughter.
As a therapist.
And as a niece who loved her uncle deeply.
That mindset is not patriotism. It’s fear. And it’s prejudice.
America is not a single culture, a single skin tone, or a single type of music.
America is a melting pot. A mix. A story made up of many stories.
And honestly… I’m becoming uncomfortable in my own USA when people act like diversity is something we need to “avoid” instead of celebrate.
We can love our country without shrinking it.
We can be proud without being cruel.
We can cheer for the same game without tearing each other apart.
Let the Super Bowl be what it was meant to be: a uniting tradition. 🇺🇸✨
