👓 Let’s talk for a moment about what MYOPIA is. Myopia, or nearsightedness, means a person can see things up close clearly, but things farther away—like the board in school—look blurry. It happens when the eye grows a little too long, which causes light to focus in front of the retina instead of on it.
👓 Between the ages of 6 and 18, a child’s prescription tends to grow the most. A nearsighted child has greater risk of vision-threatening issues such as retinal tears/ holes and detachments and or glaucoma during their adult years.
👓 Not only do glasses lenses become thicker as a child’s prescription increases, but they also become less able to function well without vision correction. As the eye elongates, the retina (the inside back of the eye where light focuses) becomes thinner and more susceptible to holes and tears. Holes, tears and detachments can be vision threatening.
👓 MiSight 1-Day contact lenses are FDA approved to slow the progression of myopia in children between the ages of 6-18.
👓 If you, or your child is nervous about the thought of wearing contacts, our daughter, Wynn can help with that! As a 12 year old, she has been wearing MiSight 1-Day contacts since they first appeared in US market (2+ years ago).
👓 Wynn helps with most of our contact lens trainings. She will teach your child how to put them in correctly, how to remove them safely and how to successfully become contact lens WEARERS.
