Southwest Health System (SHS) operates Southwest Memorial Hospital, a Critical Access Hospital, and Southwest Medical Group, which comprises clinics offering primary care and specialty services. In addition, SHS provides the latest medical and surgical technology, emergency care, a vast array of out-patient medical and wellness services. SHS is managed by Community Hospital Consulting (CHC), the management and consulting arm of Community Hospital Corporation (CHC) of Plano, Texas. “We continue to bring our expertise in hospital management and talent in critical areas of hospital operations to strengthen SHS,” said CHC’s Senior Vice President of Hospital Operations, Craig Sims. CHC Consulting specializes in managing and operating smaller, community-based hospitals across the country. The Southwest Health System board usually convenes on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The public is invited to attend the open portion of the meetings. The hospital CEO is appointed by and reports to the SHS board of directors and is employed by Community Hospital Corporation. The CEO appoints and manages the health system through members of the Senior Leadership Team, including the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Information Officer, Chief Human Resources Officer, and the Practice Administrator. Stacy received her nomination for her Leader of the Quarter award from Kierra Fury, Director of Clinical Operations, who said, "I would like to nominate Stacey as Leader of the Quarter, in recognition of her dedication and commitment to excellence within our Sleep Lab. Stacey is truly the cornerstone of the Sleep Lab team. She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that every patient receives the highest quality of care and that the department operates efficiently. She requires minimal oversight, demonstrating outstanding initiative, organization, and accountability in all aspects of her work. Jeffrey Roggenback, Sleep Technologist in the Southwest Health System’s Sleep Lab department
is recognized as Southwest Health System’s November employee of the month!

Jeff was recognized by Kierra Fury, Director of Clinical Operations, who said, "I would like to nominate Jeff Roggenback, in recognition of his exceptional dedication, reliability, and commitment to patient care in the Sleep Lab. Jeff is the only Sleep Tech in the department, and he consistently ensures that patients are well cared for and that the Sleep Lab runs smoothly. He frequently volunteers to pick up additional shifts and extra hours to maintain continuity of care and ensure that patient needs are always met. Jeff’s dedication, adaptability, and commitment to excellence have been vital to the success of the Sleep Lab. In addition to his daily responsibilities, he played a key role in the Sleep Lab accreditation process. Although Jeff works night shifts, he willingly came in during the day to meet with the surveyor to ensure the lab met accreditation standards. Dr. Stanwix, Clinic Physician at the Southwest Health System’s Walk-In Care Clinic, is recognized as Southwest Health System’s October employee of the month!

Dr. Stanwix was recognized by Ashley Berry, Radiology Manager, who said, "Recently, we lost the provider who oversees our stress tests. Dr. Stanwix stepped up to the call and immediately took over supervising stress tests twice a week. Dr. Stanwix has been a wonderful provider for several years but had never supervised stress tests. She took it upon herself to research and learn everything she possibly could about treadmill stress tests and lexiscans. She also quadrupled the amount of days we could see patients monthly, which significantly helped our backlog. Dr. Stanwix also took it upon herself to educate her fellow providers about stress test parameters, making sure patient safety and health came first every time. The cardiologists in Montrose have praised her detail and skill. Without Dr. Stanwix, we would have had to pause our stress test program until we found a provider. She is absolutely amazing to work with. You can tell she truly cares about patients, her coworkers, and SHS. Dr. Stanwix is truly a gem in our community and we couldn't thank her enough."

Please join us in congratulating Heaven Spohn, who has accepted the role of Director of Human Resources at Southwest Health System (SHS)!

Heaven has been part of the SHS family for over a decade, steadily taking on greater responsibilities. For the past 14 months, she served as Interim HR Manager while continuing her education and professional development—earning certifications, leading DiSC trainings for more than half of our team, and preparing for her SHRM-CP certification.

Her dedication, experience, and commitment to growth truly stood out during a rigorous selection process, and we’re thrilled to have her join the Senior Leadership Team.

Heaven has spent much of her life in Cortez, fostering a strong connection to our community. When she’s not working, she enjoys exploring the outdoors with her husband, kids, and their adventurous miniature dachshund.
