⭐ Today is National Relaxation Day! Here are four ways to relax the pelvic floor:

1. Pelvic Floor Stretches: Seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist is the best way to determine if you have a tight pelvic floor that needs relaxing. Dr. Riana will perform an evaluation of your pelvic floor to determine underlying causes and will guide you through specific pelvic floor muscle training to help you learn how to relax your pelvic floor.

2. Diaphragmatic Breathing: Practicing proper diaphragmatic breathing techniques is crucial to pelvic floor relaxation and nervous system regulation.

3. Gentle Movement: Specific pelvic floor stretches tailored to relaxation or exercises like slow walking or yoga are also helpful.

4. Staying Hydrated: Proper hydration helps with pelvic floor dysfunction related to bowel and bladder function, such as urinary urgency and constipation. Correcting these issues directly aids in relaxing the pelvic floor.

➡ If you suspect a tight or overactive pelvic floor, please do not hesitate to reach out and schedule an appointment with Dr. Riana! Call us at 234-806-3248!

✨ August is Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Awareness Month! Urinary Incontinence (Leakage) is a common pelvic floor dysfunction, but "common" and "normal" are not synonymous! Urinary incontinence is treatable with pelvic floor physical therapy.

How does pelvic floor therapy help with urinary incontinence? Pelvic floor therapy utilizes pelvic floor muscle training with various stretches, exercises, breathing techniques, and hands-on approaches to help the pelvic floor muscles coordinate and function properly. The pelvic floor muscles are responsible for providing support to the bladder. When you experience urinary incontinence, it is a sign that your pelvic floor muscles are not functioning properly, which leads to an insufficiently supported bladder, causing leakage.

📞 Dr. Riana can help you stop leaking urine! Call today to schedule an initial evaluation! 234-806-3248

🤔 Are you attempting a VBAC? Try Dr. Riana's tips!

1. Massage your c-section scar. Massaging your c-section scar helps to improve mobility, reduce pain, and optimize the space within the pelvis in order for your baby to take proper position for birth.

2. Breathe with your diaphragm. Diaphragmatic breathing has many benefits when preparing for a VBAC, including relaxing the pelvic floor, improving pelvic floor muscle coordination, improving circulation, and creating more space in the pelvis for baby to descend into the birth canal.

3. Stretch your hips & pelvic floor. Stretching your hips and pelvic floor increases flexibility and range of motion, helps optimize baby's position for birth, reduces the risk of vaginal tearing, and prepares your body for pushing during labor and delivery.
