❓Did you know? These 5 things affect your pelvic floor!
️⃣ Shallow or rapid breathing patterns. The way you breathe directly affects the intra-abdominal pressure management between the diaphragm and the pelvic floor. In other words, shallow or rapid breathing patterns can prevent your pelvic floor muscles from fully relaxing, causing tightness or weakness in your pelvic floor and leading to symptoms such as urinary leakage, pelvic pain, f***l incontinence, prolapse, etc.
️⃣ Stress or anxiety. The way you manage stress or anxiety has a huge impact on the health of your pelvic floor. Tight and tense pelvic floor muscles due to improperly managed stress or anxiety can cause many pelvic floor symptoms such as constipation, pelvic pressure, painful in*******se, etc.
️⃣ Scar tissue from abdominal surgeries/tearing during birth. Scar tissue can restrict the movement of your pelvic floor and cause dysfunction such as abdominal pain, urinary urgency, urinary leakage, constipation, pain with in*******se, etc.
️⃣ & 5️⃣ The strength and mobility of your hips and middle and low back mobility. The muscles in your middle and low back, hips, abdominals, and pelvic floor muscles all make up your core. This means that your hips are closely linked to your pelvic floor in both structure and function. Weakness or tension in the pelvic floor can cause pain in the hips, SI joints, back, pelvis, and even tailbone.
