Ahead of the holidays, Kinney has opened appointments & walk-ins for a 2nd dose of 2025-2026 COVID vaccine (recommended for individuals age 65+ and those who are moderately to severely immunocompromised). A 2nd dose should be administered TWO to SIX months after the last dose. Eligible patients who received a COVID vaccine in September may now receive their 2nd dose.

“Vaccination is especially important right now, because the holidays are a time when respiratory infections spike due to people traveling and socializing with family and friends,” said John Marraffa, RPh, President of Kinney Drugs.

Vaccination can restore and enhance protection against respiratory illnesses – including COVID, flu, pneumonia, and RSV. Marraffa added, “We recommend that adults 65+ and those at risk of severe infection receive a second dose of COVID as soon as they are eligible. And if anyone hasn’t been vaccinated against flu or COVID yet, it’s not too late. Kinney pharmacists stand ready to assist with immunizations and other healthcare needs.”

In both Vermont and New York, cases of pertussis (whooping cough) are increasing. Because immunity from childhood vaccination wanes over time, the adolescent/adult pertussis booster vaccine (Tdap) is necessary every 10 years to reduce the risk of contracting pertussis and decrease severity of disease.

If you are 18 or older and haven't had a Tdap shot in 10 years or more, you can schedule one at Kinney Drugs at https://kinneydrugs.com/locations/appointments/

Pertussis is a serious, highly contagious lung infection caused by bacteria. Symptoms usually appear 7-10 days after exposure in three stages:

~STAGE 1 (1-2 weeks): runny nose, sneezing, low-grade fever, mild occasional cough which gets worse.

~STAGE 2 (1-2 months): Cough becomes more severe. Coughing fits can be followed by a high-pitched whoop (as the person tries to catch their breath). Sometimes a person will turn blue and vomit and may have brief periods when they stop breathing.

~STAGE 3 (weeks to months): The person slowly gets better but coughing fits can come back if the person gets another respiratory illness.
