Cortland Global Heart Healing and Massage

Cortland Global Heart Healing and Massage Skilled 12 year licensed and 12 years practicing massage therapist, Jessica Crawford LMT, seeks to deliver pain-relief, relaxation and healing. Thank you!

If time allows, you can also check out our store, Deja Vu located in the front of thr space. Many items await:) After 5 years in The Clock Tower as a solo practitioner (2013-2018), Jessica Crawford LMT joined forces with Maureen Kiely (LCSW-R) of Maureen Kiely Counseling (who has since moved on to tele-health, thank you Maureen for the 5 years!) and Dr. Jason Barton of Barton Chiropractic to creat

e the Global Heart Healing Center at 143 Main St. in Cortland, NY (Dr. Barton is in the space Tues 8-6 and Thur 2-6 and can be reached at (607) 339-5050). Not long after, the center was joined by Sarah Tobey LMT who is also a certified reiki practitioner and whose hard work and dedication has benefited the center as well as many in the Cortland community. Thanks goes out to the other many contributors, clients and patients that have visited us over the course of the last 10 years. More recently, Global Heart has been joined by Larkin Gordon LMT and Christopher Hibbs LMT both of whom are eager to share their refined skills of focused work as well as deep tissue massage with Cortland and the surrounding areas. More information can be found on the website at globalheart.massagetherapy.com and massages can be scheduled, gift certificates can be bought as well as many other questions answered. As the center continues to grow, it regularly seeks other NYS licensed massage therapists, reiki practitioners and other healers to be a part of this wonderful journey. Conveniently located in Downtown Cortland, the space is near a Cortland Transit bus line and located directly next to a public parking lot next to William St. Despite being in the downtown area, the space is surprisingly tranquil and calm while offering both convenience and peace. Each massage is tailored to the client on a visit per visit basis. Typically, only high-grade, all natural, organic, and unscented massage cream is used as clients are also invited to choose from a wide range of essential oils to add to their cream (free of charge). Tables are warmed in the cooler months and color therapy and air purifiers are available in each room. Services may include hot towels upon request as we continue to add to our amenities on a continual basis. After 10 years, Global Heart is very excited to announce the opening of the retail section named Déjà Vu. Déjà Vu is in the front portion of The Global Heart Healing Center at 143 Main St. (across from The Student Deli and kiddie corner from DP Dough) and can be accessed through the front doors Tuesday- Saturday 12 pm-6 pm. This retail space is an eclectic mix of gifts and world market goods such as tapestries, incense and kantha quilts as well as vintage clothing and items, thrift, antiques, sterling silver jewelry (a wide array of Celtic designs), and a large selection of healing stones and crystals that will bring much enjoyment and healing to the Cortland community and anyone that can visit Déjà Vu or be gifted an item via a visitor. The healing stone inventory is the most recent and largest acquisition to date. The stones have many healing properties and can benefit a lot of people with all kinds of healing intentions and ailments. Don’t forget about the electric massage chairs purchased with a grant through Thoma Development in 2020 that are now more accessible thanks to the increased hours of the retail space. Be sure to follow each part of Global Heart and their independent social media pages under “Cortland Global Heart Healing and Massage” on FB and on Insta and Deja Vu on FB and on Instagram for future specials, sales, and new inventory. Adoption update: Two single youngsters, Buster and Cricket (Taylor) have found a home together. Once strangers, now friends.

Buster had been at the Dewitt PetSmart for several weeks with his mom while they waited for a home, but no prospects came along. Both went to foster placements for a break. Buster was wearing out the foster mom because all he wanted to do was PLAY! He’s high energy.

Meanwhile, another young cat was in a foster home without a playmate. When someone wanted to adopt two young cats, Buster and Cricket (Taylor) were paired together. That has been going well and apparently, Cricket lets Buster know when he’s too much. You go girl!

Thank you for adopting two young, single kitties to give them a friend for life. 💕

Some ground is worth more than data.
Especially in New York.
When you see a sunset like this painting the hills in vibrant fall colors, one truth becomes clear - some ground should stay untouched, no matter how much data we need.

BEHAVIOR:
What my friends at ACC say about me:
* I am a sweet, social, older gal, looking for the perfect forever home!
* I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me.

Mosoe is laying on top of her den, curled up, body relaxed as the assessor approaches. When the kennel door is opened and she is softly spoken to, Mosoe picks her head up, chirping and meowing softly at the assessor. She leans forward to sniff the assessor's hand before gently head bunting it, allowing and leaning into all petting and beginning to make biscuits as she is pet. Mosoe is able to be coaxed down from the den and to the front of the kennel. She is able to be easily picked up, remaining calm when held. When she is placed back into the kennel, she remains at the front, continuing to softly head bunt and allow and lean into all petting.

Mosoe interacts with the assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat is suitable for any level of adopter experience.

♦♦TO BE KILLED♦♦

"Lilly is on the At-Risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display challenging behavior during interactions. Lilly has a lot of energy and is very quick to overstimulate with handling. She would benefit from interactive play at a safe distance so that she can expend her energy constructively, such as puzzle toys, lick mats, cat dancers and fishing pole type toys, etc. Lilly is social and interested in people but only tolerates brief petting before swatting/nipping, which could potentially result in bite/scratch incidents. It is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with feline body language, overstimulation, rough play, and who have the time to invest in managing these behaviors on a consistent basis to avoid bite/scratch incidents."

*** A volunteer writes:
Lilly is a beautiful calico girl only about 3 years old. She seems to have a lot of energy and enjoys to play. Her favorite toys are wand toys, specifically anything with a feather for her to batt her paws at. Lilly plays a bit rough sometimes and I think would do great in a home that can play with her to tire her out, understands cats, and can respect her boundaries. ***

2/24/2026:
On 2/24/2026 at approximately 10:40 am, I examined Lilly 247733. She has appropriate mentation at this
time with no neurologic signs present, and has not exhibited any neurological signs while at ACC.

BEHAVIOR:
KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors
Previously lived with: 2 adults
Behavior toward strangers: Shy
Behavior toward children: No experience
Behavior toward cats: No experience
Behavior toward dogs: No experience
Bite or Scratch history: Owner states her cat attacked her on 2/14/26 around 1 pm after she went to pick up a towel off the floor. She was bitten and scratched on both legs and both arms. She went to Urgent care on the same day due to her being diabetic. Police were called but Owner was at urgent care, so ACC Field Rescue picked up the cat to transport her to Manhattan ACC. The cat was behind the sofa upon arrival.
Litter box training: No concerns reported
Energy level/descriptors: low-medium energy
Other notes: During admissions intake and after attempting to pick her up, Lilly was frightened and had to be netted.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:
PRIOR ASSESSMENT 2/24/26
Lilly has a bite/scratch incident that resulted in wounds to the owner's arms and legs (see Known History above for more details). It is possible that Lilly escalated after the owner bent down to pick up a towel from the floor and the sudden movement or close approach may have triggered Lilly to behave defensively. Due to the limited information provided, it is unclear if Lilly has a history of displaying similar behaviors.

Lilly is displaying conflicted behaviors or may be intimidated by human hands. She lunges, hisses, or swats at the den door when removing the den cover or when the assessor reaches close with their finger at the door; however, when reaching into the den with the scratcher tool, she leans in hard and rolls onto her side.

2/18/26
Lilly is laying in her den, poking her head out, eyes wide and pupils very dilated as the handler approaches. When petting is attempted with the scratcher tool, she leans into it, head bunting and rolling around while she is pet with the tool. When the handler goes to open the kennel door, she freezes, beginning to lip lick. The door is closed again, and petting is attempted with the scratcher tool, and she again leans in, head bunts, and allows petting on the head and cheeks with the tool.

2/25/26
When he kennel door opened, Lilly ran out of her den to greet the handler. She happily ate squeeze up and allowed pets on the head with the scratcher tool. When starting to pet down the back with the tool, she hissed and batted at the tool. She continued to eat more squeeze up and tolerated head pets with the tool.

2/27/26
Lilly was inside her den and poked her head out to sniff at treats on scratcher tool. She came all the way out of den, standing with her body slightly crouched and her tail low behind her. She gave a low growl and swatted the scratcher tool. When the tool was withdrawn, she ate the treats and looked around for more. She growled again when I lifted my hand to offer another treat. When treat was tossed through kennel door, she ate it readily. When offered a feather wand, she initially swatted hard, then gradually began to paw at it more playfully, appearing slightly less tense.

3/3/26
Came right up to the front of the kennel for attention. Able to pet her by hand for a few minutes. Ate two
Squeeze-ups from the clicker. Also ate some tuna. She enjoyed swatting at the cat dancer but got a bit overstimulated. Ended interaction after that to avoid FAS.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively

VOCAL: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: Bold, Social, Sweet, Playful, People oriented, Curious

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Overstimulation, Fearful, Very high energy level, Other, New home adjustment period

Potential challenges comments: Lilly is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior, we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.

Lilly is an active cat who would benefit from increased mental and physical stimulation to appropriately direct her energy. We recommend using fishing pole-type toys as they allow for vigorous and stimulating exercise. Puzzle feeders will also keep Lilly engaged and exercise her brain in addition to her body.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS: Adult only home

Recommendations comments: Adult only home due to bite/scratch history and potential to escalate.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Lilly is at the front of the kennel as the assessor approaches, head bunting the kennel door and extending her paws outside of the bars towards the assessor to solicit attention. When the kennel door is opened, she allows petting on the head and cheeks, leaning in and head bunting, but turns and nips at the assessor's hand after a few seconds. She continues to solicit attention, leaning her body against the side wall of the kennel and head bunting the kennel bars. Petting is attempted again and she allows some more brief petting on the head and cheeks before again turning to nip and bat my hand. Assessor attempts play with a feather wand and Lilly immediately engages in play, pouncing, batting, chasing, and catching the toy.

Lilly is a sweet, social girl and seems to enjoy attention but can be a bit particular about petting and handling. She may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center and prior bite/scratch history, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.

What my friends at ACC say about me:
* I have potential behavior challenges that staff will address with you when you meet me.
* Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy!
* I am looking for a home with a patient person.
* I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.
* I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.
* I would do best in a home with only adult humans.
* I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together!
* I am playful and cute!

It is the policy of ACC not to perform surgery on any animal over the age of 8-10 years due to the higher risks incurred in a shelter setting. The veterinarian is hereby issuing a permanent spay/neuter waiver, from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY due to the estimated age of this animal. ACC does recommend you consult with your veterinarian to determine if surgical sterilization is appropriate.

BEHAVIOR:
KNOWN HISTORY: Daisy Cake was brought in with limited information on her behavior history in a home environment.

Upon intake Daisy Cake was friendly and tolerant with staff. She allowed all handling.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate

VOCAL: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: Calm, Sweet, Affectionate, People oriented, Easy going, Graceful

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Level 1

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Daisy Cake was lying on her back as the assessor approached, body and face relaxed with her belly exposed. Daisy Cake makes eye contact when spoken to and she remains belly up as the kennel door opens. Daisy Cake allowed petting along her head and body while standing up, leaning in and raising her tail. Daisy Cake continued to lean in as petting went on and she remained calm when lifted and placed back down.

Daisy Cake interacts with the assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is suitable for any level of adopter experience.

What my friends at ACC say about me:

Daisy Cake came to us at ACC after her previous owner passed away. While in care with us, she has been extremely friendly: soliciting attention, allowing all handling from staff, and lounging around in her kennel. She is a sweet senior lady, looking for a calm quiet home where she can rest, and receive pets and praise.

Our Story

Plans for Global Heart Healing and Massage first began to formulate when the Owner, Jessica Crawford LMT, was giving a massage and still in massage school at Finger Lakes School of Massage. Having an interest in world travel and recognizing that we are all effected by the collective energy all over the planet, the name made sense. It was also the intention that someday in the future the business could come to umbrella several healing professions including but not limited to multiple Massage Therapists, a Counselor and a Chiropractor all under one roof. In May of 2018, just as the business celebrated its 5 year Anniversary by moving nearby to 143 Main St, it simultaneously also reached the longstanding dream of expansion into The Global Heart Healing Center. Joining in the collaboration of healing others, are Maureen Kiely LCSW-R (Counseling Services), Jason Barton DC (Chiropractic Services), Sarah Tobey LMT, and Julia Post practicing Massage Therapist.

Each Therapist is professional, hard working, heart-centered and excited to come together with other like-minded healers to offer a comprehensive approach to healing. Each massage is tailored to the Client on a visit per visit basis. Only high grade, all natural, organic and unscented cream is used. Clients are invited to choose from a wide range of essential oils to add to their cream (free of charge) or if they prefer, they can keep it plain. Shea Butter is used when needed. Other oils are available in the case of allergies or preference. In order to gather information and assess the best approach, each Client will be asked to fill out a short intake form on their first visit and take part in a verbal intake at the start of future appointments. Upon completion of this intake, the Therapist and the Client will decide the best approach for the session whether the Client is looking specifically for an overall relaxing massage, needs specific work, or a combination of the two. Each Client’s comfort and confidentiality is of utmost importance.

In addition to three lovely treatment rooms, the Healing Center also offers a large sitting/activity room which is a waiting room during business hours, but that also encourages leisure/educational/commerce activities such as meditation, reading, board games, workshops, community building, guest speakers, pop-up shops, an art gallery, and rental for massage parties or small gatherings such as jewelry parties (and the like), bridal showers, etc. The options are limitless.

Conveniently located in Downtown Cortland, the new space is serviced directly in the front by the local public transportation of the Cortland Transit bus line, is located directly next to a public parking lot, surrounded by ample street parking and is ADA accessible both inside and out. Despite being in the Downtown area the space is surprisingly tranquil and calm inside offering both convenience and peace.
