Karen Dudgeon, LCSW You Matter, There is Hope... Help is Here

Counseling for families and individuals in all ages and stages of life.

We are all shaped by our experiences and by those we care about. Seeking help is not about weakness but about finding sources of strength with in us. Sometimes we need help, contacting a therapist can be a big step for someone who is struggling. As a therapist, it is my job to provide a warm, safe and caring environment for clients to explore current difficulties and come up with ways of solving t

hese issues using their strengths and creativity. I utilize a number of modalities including Cognitive Behavior Techniques, stress reduction, and talk therapies to help clients discover their best selves. If you or someone you know is suffering, call or email me to make an appointment today! To learn more please visit my website: www.kdpsychotherapy.com

When you can’t cut out (their worries), add in (what they need for felt safety).

Rather than focusing on what we need them to do, shift the focus to what we can do. Make the environment as safe as we can (add in another safe adult), and have so much certainty that they can do this, they can borrow what they need and wrap it around themselves again and again and again.

You already do this when they have to do things that don’t want to do, but which you know are important - brushing their teeth, going to the dentist, not eating ice cream for dinner (too often). The key for living bravely is to also recognise that so many of the things that drive anxiety are equally important.

We also need to ask, as their important adults - ‘Is this scary safe or scary dangerous?’ ‘Do I move them forward into this or protect them from it?’♥️
