Interested in hernia prevention?

Then you’re looking the right place.💪

✨At The Pelvic Place, we value the importance of core strength and the importance of contracting your core correctly to help with injury prevention.

✨Research tells us that when we have low back pain, our core has the tendency to engage slower, increasing the risk of intra-abdominal pressure and less spinal stability with activities such as lifting or squatting. (Selkow et al., 2017).

✨Also any incision to the abdomen can impair core activation as well. This is important to address for injury prevention down the line.

✨Don’t let that be you. Nip your lower back pain in the bud and gain your confidence back in the gym.

✨Shoot us a text at 330-961-5000 or check out the link in the bio to schedule your appointment. 💪✨

✨What is pelvic floor physical therapy?

-It is a specialty in physical therapy that focuses on the pelvic floor muscles, which are involved in bowel and bladder function, sexual function, and posture.

-Men or women can suffer from pelvic floor dysfunction and can experience a variety of symptoms such as constipation, incontinence or pelvic pain just to name a few.

-An evaluation is not solely focused on the pelvic floor muscles, rather all the other joints and muscles that influence them.

-At The Pelvic Place, we focus on assessing the following things:

Note: There are other measures that are assessed, but not included in this list.

✨Movement Patterns: If you are leaking with squats or lunges or notice pain with those movements, we want to see it. This way we can identify any muscle compensation or movement pattern that is affecting the pelvic floor.

✨ Balance: Our feet set the foundation for how our body is going to react to ground forces. If your foot collapses when standing on 1 foot, then that affects how the forces are translated up the chain including the pelvic floor.

✨Breathing/Rib Mobility: If you are breathing into your chest and neck, then that can create increased pressure down into the pelvic floor, contributing to a multitude of symptoms.

✨Core/Hip Strength: How we contract our core muscles, and how strong our hip muscles are, affects the function of the pelvic floor.

✨Flexibility: Your hip rotators have connections to the muscles of the pelvic floor, and therefore the physical therapist will assess your hip mobility.

✨(optional) Pelvic Floor Exam: This exam is one of the single most important pieces of the pelvic floor evaluation. This tells the physical therapist how your pelvic floor is able to move, what the tone of your muscles are like, and also how you are managing pressure. Dr. Maggie Glaros can perform a vaginal exam, re**al exam, or both, depending on patient preference and symptom presentation. Of course, this is completely optional and should be discussed with the physical therapist.

Whew 😅 If you have made it this far and are interested in scheduling a pelvic floor evaluation or have questions, text us at 330-961-5000 or check out the link in the bio. Your body will thank you ☺️.

✨When you p*e “just in case,” you’re emptying your bladder before it’s actually full. Over time, your bladder and brain learn this habit. Instead of waiting for a normal, healthy amount of urine (2-4 hours), the bladder starts sending urgency signals earlier and earlier.

✨Eventually:
* The bladder gets used to holding smaller volumes
* Urge signals feel stronger and more urgent
* You may feel like you need to go all the time, even when the bladder isn’t full
This“bossy bladder”—it’s not dangerous, but it’s trained to be overly demanding.

✨The good news?
Just like it learned this habit, the bladder can relearn healthier timing with bladder training, urge-suppression strategies, and pelvic floor physical therapy.

Don’t let your bossy bladder take control. Text 330-961-5000 to schedule an appointment or check out the link in the bio. Your bladder will thank you! 😊
