14 Stations of the Cross Reflection Series at Otterbein Cortland

✝️ Station 3: Jesus Falls the First Time

“If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me before it hated you. If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world— therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘Servants are not greater than their master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.
(John 15:18-20)

Reflection
The weight becomes too much, and He collapses. Dust clings to the blood on His face. Yet this fall is not defeat—it is compassion. In falling, Jesus reveals that He understands our weakness, our moments of collapse, our fears that we cannot continue.

Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, When I stumble beneath life’s burdens, lift me up with Your mercy. Give me courage to rise again and to trust that You walk with me in every weakness. Amen.

✝️ Station 2: Jesus Accepts the Cross

Now it was the day of Preparation for the Passover; and it was about noon. He said to the Jews, “Here is your King!” They cried out, “Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!” Pilate asked them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but the emperor.” Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. So, they took Jesus; and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha.
(John 19:14-17)

Reflection
The cross is placed upon His torn shoulders. He does not step back. He receives it willingly, knowing it is the vessel of our healing. Jesus shows us that love embraces sacrifice—not because it is easy, but because others depend on it.

Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, help me to accept the cross placed before me—not with bitterness, but with the same willingness You showed. Strengthen me to carry what must be carried in union with Your saving love. Amen.

✝️ Station 1: Jesus Is Condemned to Death

Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” Jesus said, “I am; and ‘you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power,’ and ‘coming with the clouds of heaven.’” Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “Why do we still need witnesses? You have heard his blasphemy! What is your decision?” All of them condemned him as deserving death.
(Mark 14:61-64)

Reflection
The innocent Son of God stands before human judgment. Though falsely accused, He offers no defense. He accepts the verdict that should have been ours. In this moment, Jesus enters fully into every rejection, every injustice, every moment we have ever felt unheard, unseen, or unloved.

Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, when I face unfairness or feel misunderstood, teach me to look to You, who bore injustice with courage and love. Give me a heart that trusts the Father even when the world feels against me. Amen.
