Downward Facing Dog / Adho Mukha Svanasana β’ Heels up or heels down? Maybe instead ask...What feels good? β’ It doesnβt matter for a couple of reasons. 1. Maybe your body physically can not get the heels down. Not all ankles will allow that angle. There are so many reasons that could be contributing, including tightness in the hamstrings. 2. Tell your ego to π€« for a moment because this pose is more about your spine anyway. As with most inverted postures they are a reprieve for the spine from fighting daily with gravity. Those little squishy discs between your vertebrae need a break from helping keep you upright. β’ So my PSA for today is BEND YOUR KNEES. If it feels good, do it. My knees pretty much stay in a deep bend in my personal practice now. I no longer put undue strain on my knees or hamstrings. If your wanting to stretch the hamstrings there are plenty of other postures for that. {Rant about over stretching hamstrings for another day ππΌββοΈ} As a teacher I feel a responsibility to help students create a practice that will last. I already feel the issues from over pushing, over stretching and not listening because my ego is in the drivers seat. #bendyourknees
Itβs Monday & the sun is out!
Over a decade of practice and I still wobble in & out of things. 15 minutes of practice, squished into a minute. {squished...thatβs a fun wordπ}

I made a fool of myself this weekend. Said some nasty things to my husband that Iβll never be able to take back. Itβs hard being in this world of love, light & all things compassionate while still being a human. Like most people I battle inner demons of pain, anger & resentment from decades of fumbling through this world. As much as I always try to practice what I preach Iβm not perfect & often fall flat on my face in a heap of snot & tears. Growth comes from knowing I screwed up & finding some courage to say Iβm sorry. // One foot in front of the other. Finding the strength to forgive ourselves. Thatβs how we change the things we donβt like about ourselves. Always learning & growing. // Also letting go of my pride & sharing here that Iβm not perfect is part of that growth. Its important in these days of perfection around ever corner to expose the bits that make us uncomfortable with ourselves.
Incase you wonder what Iβm doing between classes. π
I have one hidden talent and this is it. Old high school marching band, color guard skills. π

Years to get to this place. Years to allow the backbend to happen. Years to find the splits with a bit of ease. This practice will truly force you into having patience, if you are open. I now donβt know what I did before it, not because Iβm more bendy but because Iβm a better version of me.
Early morning playtime. π€

I love having conversations that make you think, and take you to a very introspective place. I had one of those today with a friend and wanted to share some of it here with you. She talked about a conversation she had recently had with another friend, asking her for 3 things she liked about her physical self and 3 things she liked about her non-physical self. This got me thinking about those things for myself, as well as another question...what are 3 things I could improve on.
Physical
1. My blue eyes and thankful that I passed them onto my daughter. π
2. My strength. I like being and feeling strong. πͺπ»
3. My phat ass. π I never had boobs so my butt was the one thing I had working for me. π³π
Non-physical
1. How I've always had an individual sense of style. Shaving my head for example π©π»βπ€
2. My sense of wonder and adventure. π
3. I'm think I'm a good listener and genuinely try to come from a place of non-judgement when being someone's ear. π£π
What I could improve
1. My eating habits. I should eat more often and drink lots more water. I'm lucky if I eat one true meal a day. I snack more than I eat meals. π
2. My meditation practice. I strive for daily but...ππ»
3. Be more of a positive influence to those I encounter. Even on my bad days I want to radiate love and kindness. β€οΈβ¨
So, what are your 3 things?? π

For me forearm stand {pincha mayurasana} has been a huge hurdle, even more so than handstand. I don't often try it because I usually get so frustrated with myself, but for some reason a few days ago I did. I kicked up and didn't immediately topple over, I wobble a bit but came out mindfully. Lots of work on my shoulder strength and getting out of my head and into the breath has allowed this little victory to manifest.

Also don't forget to be your own cheerleader. π
