We had a great time hosting the LPI’s Diet and Optimum Health Conference! It was amazing to have such esteemed speakers and engaged guests gathered together for two days at OSU's CH2M HILL Alumni Center.

From innovations in bench and data science to the challenges of communication and implementation, the presentations and discussions further inspired our shared desire to help people live longer, healthier lives.

OSU’s Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts (PRAx) provided the perfect setting last night for celebrating the conference and the new and deepened connections among our guests. Thank you to everyone who helped make DOH 2025 a success!

Congratulations to Jan Frederik Stevens, the LPI’s new Ava Helen Pauling Chair!

Dr. Stevens was among several OSU faculty members recognized by the Oregon State University Foundation at its annual Faculty Excellence Dinner on May 7.

He is currently LPI’s Associate Director of Research and a professor in the Oregon State University College of Pharmacy. He joined the Institute in 2002.

Dr. Stevens’ research focuses on the chemistry, biology, and pharmacology of natural products from plants. He is known for leading pioneering research on xanthohumol, a natural product from the female flowers of the hops plant.

The Stevens lab has discovered that xanthohumol exerts anti-inflammatory, anti-obesity, and anti-hyperglycemic effects in animal models of metabolic syndrome. Dr. Stevens brought xanthohumol to clinical trials for testing its safety and efficacy in patients suffering from Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

The Ava Helen Pauling Chair position was named in honor of Dr. Linus Pauling’s wife because of her great importance to him, his career, and their work opposing nuclear testing and promoting world peace.

We did it! Because of so many of you, the Linus Pauling Institute exceeded its goal during yesterday’s Dam Proud Day fundraising event. We received 121 donations and raised over $90,000!

This success helps us in several important ways, raising funds for our research, student fellowships and support, and the Micronutrient Information Center.

Also, a huge thank you goes to our many challenge donors who helped inspire so many others to give and support the LPI!
