Employee Spotlight: Mike H.
Our next Employee Spotlight is also known as “Hunter”—because, once again, we have several Mikes on staff, and we’ve got to keep them straight 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘩𝘰𝘸!
With an incredible 𝟒𝟑 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐌𝐒, Michael’s dedication and experience speak for themselves.
He first became certified as an EMT in 1982 while attending Murray State University, at just 20 years old. What started as a requirement for his sports medicine program quickly became a lifelong calling. Inspired by his instructor—a Vietnam War veteran and Army Medic—Mike discovered a deep appreciation for the history and evolution of emergency medicine, much of which grew out of lessons learned on the battlefield.
Before fully diving into EMS, Mike worked in a factory for four years. But his passion for helping others led him to a BLS ambulance service in Evansville, and eventually to Alexander Ambulance, the Paramedic service handling 9-1-1 calls across Vanderburgh County. Along the way, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Health Services from the University of Southern Indiana and completed numerous management courses to continue advancing his knowledge.
Some of Michael’s favorite memories come from early in his career when he would get to have conversations with World War II and Korean War veterans he encountered as patients. “They were a fascinating generation,” he recalls—moments that left a lasting impression on his approach to patient care.
Outside of EMS, Michael is a lifelong learner and creative mind. An early adopter of computers, he developed a love for graphic design, photography, and web design, often using those skills to serve his church and community.
Michael’s journey to Harrison County Hospital EMS began thanks to a familiar connection—Gary Kleeman, who brought him on board in the 1990s. After working PRN for several years, Michael joined full-time in 2007 and later stepped into his role as 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫, where he’s been shaping the next generation of EMS professionals ever since.
We’re so grateful for everything that Mike brings to our team-your experience, mentorship, and passion continue to make a lasting impact on HCH EMS!
