Our medic students have powered through countless hours in the classroom, and now it’s time to put that hard-earned knowledge into action. This is the phase where everything starts to click and the paramedic mindset begins to form.

𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧

Meet Kanon, one of our newer full-timers who jumped into EMS with enthusiasm, drive, and the kind of “start young, go big” energy we all wish we had.

Kanon first stepped into emergency services as a junior firefighter with Harrison Township Fire Department at just 14 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘭𝘥. After graduating high school, he continued on as a firefighter and officially earned his EMT certification in 2023 at age 19. He worked part-time on an ambulance while still serving full-time in the fire service before making the leap to full-time EMS with HCH-a clear sign of his commitment to serving his community.

His draw to EMS came from the meaningful patient interactions and the opportunity to make a real difference. Kanon shares that his favorite aspect of the job is being able to support individuals and families during some of their most challenging moments and knowing his presence can have a positive impact.

When he’s not on the truck, you’ll usually find him fishing, boating, or enjoying anything outdoors.

Kanon says he was drawn to HCH EMS because of our strong professional reputation and our employee-first mentality—and we’re so glad that reputation brought him here!

𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐂.

Don’t worry—there 𝘪𝘴 a smile hiding behind that mustache… at least, we’re pretty sure there is. The man behind the mustache is 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬!

Chris first became an EMT in 2008, at age 25, while volunteering with Harrison Township Fire Department (cue the mustache - it’s basically part of the uniform). Before stepping into emergency services, he spent years in retail and wholesale management so he could be present while his kids were growing up.

Eventually, the fire service called him full-time—and he worked his way up the ranks to Captain with Harrison Township. His passion for EMS sparked during an Advanced class—something he says he wishes he had pursued even sooner.

One of Chris’s favorite memories goes back to his ride time in 2008, when he cared for a WWII nurse. She was kind, brilliant, and full of stories—so much so that Chris says he still reflects on their conversation to this day.

When he’s off duty, you can usually find Chris outside with his lab, Chief, enjoying some much-needed downtime.

Chris chose HCH EMS because of the high standards, the strong reputation, and the respect he has for our command staff and education team. He calls us a “solid, well-rounded organization”—and we’re grateful he’s part of it.

Thanks for everything you bring to HCH EMS, Chris!

It’s official: manual stretchers have reached their end at Harrison County Hospital EMS.
Cause of death? Power load systems.
And absolutely no one is mourning. ⚰️😎

Our newest ambulance is being prepped for service, replacing the last truck still rocking a manual stretcher.
Another step toward improving safety and care — for both our crews and our community!
