Did you know that Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) affects approximately 5-10% of the individuals in a given region and is also one of the ten most common reasons for a visit to a primary care physician?

IBS is a recognized and common disorder of gut-brain interaction and characterized by abdominal discomfort that is associated with defecation or changes in bowel habits.

Further, patients with IBS report worse health-related quality of life than patients with diabetes or end-stage kidney disease.

The good news is that acupuncture, as well as Chinese medicinal herbs, has been shown recently to be a safe and effective treatment for IBS, especially the diarrhea-predominate type (IBS-D).

Practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine have known this for ages already and are knowledgeable about how to treat it.

In addition, did you know that IBS and depression share an association? In another study, patients who were treated for depression using acupuncture had reduced risk for IBS.
