It’s true, friends. “Rest and digest” is not the goal here. It does not always mean your nervous system is regulated. Sometimes what feels calm is actually your body in freeze — conserving energy because it doesn’t feel safe to fully relax or to shift into motion either.

True regulation isn’t about staying calm all the time, it’s about being able to move between activation and rest with ease, without getting stuck in either one. It’s about increasing capacity, and ease. And I got you.

I am working on a bio for an upcoming speaking event and was inspired by a friend to take a fun side quest and ask ChatGTP to describe what I do as my slightly drunk bestie, and I have to say, the results were both hilarious and also… pretty spot on.

I’m often not sure how to describe what I do because I do deeply love science and even teach research classes in a doctorate program, but I also did a 2000 hour doctoral program in medical qigong which focuses on the emotional and energetic aspects of our wellness. To me, these things are not opposites but just different parts of the whole.

It is also very true that I have been there - I have been in the overwhelm and anxiety, I’ve been in the perfectionism and overthinking we tend towards as humans. I’ve been in the exhausted but not feeling like I could rest or that if I was resting I was being lazy. I’ve been in all of it. And I’ve developed an absolutely incredible toolbox that is rooted in real life practicality and really works. And I’m so excited to share more of it with YOU!
