"Miss Mandy how long does it take to get through the wait list for a dance class and will my child get in?"

This is a tough one to answer as it varies so much. Typically we get through maybe 1-5 people on a wait list. A spot only opens up when a dancer moves up due to skill level or drops the class.

The wait list is active through December and then we begin work on our spring show and do not add any new students into the mix as we begin our costume fittings and choreography.

The best way to ensure a spot if you aren't already a student? Participate in our summer program. Summer program attendees get an early registration option!

Costumes take months to find, purchase, ship, alter, fit and deliver! So I’m starting now! First costume of the season has just arrived 😍

Last night we finished the sign ups for our upper level Nutcracker tour. The cast list was posted today and we love seeing dancers support each other during this exciting time!

These dancers have a large commitment on their hands. Not only learning the choreography quickly, but being on time to rehearsals, making it to their regular classes, giving full effort and being good examples to younger dancers, and so much more!

We look forward to this season each year and can't wait to get started!

We've had an amazing first week at SLDA! It's so fun to see dancers participating for the first time and also those that have dedicated their free time to dance and are back in the studio again!

Whether your dancer is with us 1 day a week, or 7 days a week, thank you for seeing the value of what we do here at SLDA. We know it is a commitment and we see your efforts.

And we also appreciate the support from local and not so local businesses that allow us to continue offering high value classes for a lower cost. Thank you!

A reminder that your invoices are due within a few days of registration in order to retain your dancer's spot. I'll be opening up any spots with "overdue" payments to the waitlists on 9/1. Please reach out if you need an extra day or two!

Auditions went well this year! We have classes for all ages but we also have higher level classes that are only able to be accessed by auditioning. And let me tell you....

It was amazing to see how much work many of them have been doing this summer. Flexibility, choreography, technique...they did not let it disappear this summer...they fought to keep it and to help it grow, and it was apparent to the audition panel.

We thank the panel for their time and experience, we thank the parents for their continued support of their dancer's training, and we thank these dancers for their efforts.

Your hours in a studio this summer, or in your own house studying solo did not go unnoticed! Here's to a great 25/26 dance year!

Free upper level auditions are this Thursday 8/7 beginning at 5pm. If you feel like you're ready for one of the levels listed below, come audition at no cost. If you choose to audition on another day, that hourly / private audition cost is up to you...so take advantage of this special event!

Here are the classes/ levels that require an audition:

Ballet - level 4 and up
Jazz - level 3 and up
Hip Hop - level 4 and up
Contemporary - Intermediate or Advanced level
Musical Theater - Intermediate or Advanced level
Modern - Intermediate or Advanced level

Here is a schedule for the day:

4:00-5:00 Studio open for warm up
5:00-5:15 Welcome announcement
5:15-5:45 Musical Theater /Jazz audition (combo)
5:45-6:15 Ballet Audition (barre / center / turns)
6:15-6:30 Break
6:30-7:00 Contemporary Audition (combo)
7:00-7:15 Modern Audition (across the floor)
7:15-7:45 Hip Hop (combo)
8:00 Exit promptly so the panel can discuss

"Miss Mandy, how does registration work and which classes will fill the quickest?"

Here is a brief overview:
*The 25/26 schedule will be posted early August.
*Mid August, those who danced in the spring show will be invited to register early.
*Mid August, those who participated in our summer camp and siblings of our spring show dancers will be invited to register early (but after our spring show dancers).
*Mid August (but after the above groups have had their early registration), any remaining spots are opened to the public.

As far as which classes fill the quickest - we never know! BUT, if last year was any inclination, I would say Hip hop 1, Hip Hop 2 and Youth Contemporary will be the most popular.

Remember to register for your dancer's classes by age unless told otherwise. I'll reach out if your dancer is ready for a different level than what you registered them for!
