In yoga philosophy, Svadhyaya means self-study; the gentle practice of observing ourselves with honesty and compassion.

Not to judge.
Not to fix.
But to understand.

Each time we step onto the mat, we’re invited to notice: our breath, our patterns, our reactions, our stories.

Over time, this quiet awareness becomes wisdom.

And wisdom is what guides real growth.

Today, simply ask yourself: What am I learning about myself right now? ✨

Happy International Women’s Day ✨

Today is a beautiful reminder of the strength, wisdom, and resilience that lives within every woman. I feel so grateful to spend time on the mat with so many incredible women who show up for themselves with courage, humor, and heart.

Yoga gives us a space to breathe, reconnect, and remember that our power doesn’t come from pushing harder, it comes from honoring who we are.

Here’s to supporting one another, lifting each other up, and continuing to grow stronger together. ✌️💚🕉️

Join me on the mat this week:
✨Yoga Flow: Monday & Wednesday, 8am at The Rural Organizing Project Bldg (632 E. Main St)
✨Gentle Somatic Yoga: Monday & Thursday, 10am at The Row River Grange
✨Yoga Flow: Saturday, 9am at The Lorane Grange

Happy ! It’s been a couple of years, but I’ve decided to bring back Pose of the Month, starting right now. 😊

For March, we’re focusing on Chaturanga Dandasana (also known as Four-Limbed Staff Pose).

This powerful pose shows up a lot in vinyasa flow classes. It has also been one of the most challenging poses in my entire yoga journey. Just check out my perfectly imperfect version in the photo! 😅

So how does this connect with our monthly theme of svadhyaya, or self-study? Let’s just say I’ve done plenty of self-study while working on this pose over the years. Maybe not always the deepest reflection, but definitely some honest learning along the way.

Stay tuned this month as we explore alignment tips, benefits, helpful modifications, and prep poses that can help us build strength and find more success in this powerful asana.

Is there a pose you’d love to see featured in the coming months? Let me know in the comments or send me a DM!

Happy ✨

This week’s meditation is a simple svadhyaya practice, self-study with curiosity and kindness.

✌Find a comfortable seat.
💚Close your eyes.
🕉Notice your breath as it is.

Then gently ask yourself:
🌟What am I feeling right now?
🌟What do I notice in my body?
🌟What am I learning about myself in this moment?

No fixing. No judging. Just observing.

For March, we are digging deep…within ourselves. ✨

This month’s focus is the 4th niyama: svadhyaya.

Sva = self
Adhyaya = study or investigation

In the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, svadhyaya is described as the study of spiritual texts. T. K. V. Desikachar sheds a little light on that and explains that studying the spiritual texts are meant to be used as reference points that help us explore our true Self: to notice where we are, and WHO we are.

This kind of study helps lift us out of ignorance and gently guides us toward enlightenment or bliss.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll explore how svadhyaya shows up in our physical practice, in our broader yoga practices, and in the way we move through daily life.
Sri Swami Satchidananda suggests choosing one or two spiritual texts to accompany this journey. It’s probably no surprise that the Yoga Sutras would be one of my picks…though choosing just one more feels like an impossible task - I’ll get back to you on that one! :)

If you were choosing a text to study this month, what would it be? Share in the comments. I’d love to hear what inspires you. ✌💚🕉

As we close out February and our focus on tapas, I have been revisiting different translations, commentaries, and my own notes collected over the years. I would like to end the month by reflecting on two sutras from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

PYS 2.1 reminds us that transformation asks for a steady inner fire, a committed willingness to embrace the discipline that purifies our thoughts, words, and actions.

PYS 2.43 teaches that through tapas, often translated as austerity or disciplined effort, impurities of body and senses are reduced, revealing clarity, strength, and deeper awareness.

To me, austerity is not about harshness or deprivation. It is about simplicity. When we simplify, we create space. In that space there is freedom. That freedom allows us to reconnect with our true Self, the self with the capital “S,” the steady, powerful, and peaceful presence within.

May we carry that transforming fire forward.

Sat Nam.

How do you incorporate tapas into your life? Share in the comments ✌💚🕉
