Be prepared for a lengthy post…

First and foremost we want to thank our community members for the words of encouragement, and the letters, emails and phone calls to elected officials. Your voices were heard; Representative Nate Butler and Senator Mike Argabright specifically mentioned calls and emails on behalf of The Apothecary and Chase County Pharmacy patients as we presented them a handful of letters written by YOU, our awesome patients. This is incredible support, and we cannot thank you enough!

450 of the absolute finest Kansas Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Students, and Friends of Pharmacy spend the day at the Kansas Statehouse advocating for PBM reform. This fight is critical for us to be able to continue to serve the wonderful people of our communities. We fight for our patients to continue to have access to care right in their community with the friendly faces they know and trust.

Jake Dugan and Tami Dugan specifically got to meet, shake hands, and sit down to chat face to face with both Representative Nate Butler and Senator Mike Argabright. They had questions, asked for solutions, and encouraged us to keep fighting because they see the value of small town pharmacy. We asked for transparency of PBMs and a free market for patient to choose where they do business.

We honestly believe we made a difference today, our voices were heard, and the white coats flooding the capitol could not be ignored. We have plenty of work ahead of us for PBM reform to become a reality in the state of Kansas, but we will not stop fighting for our patients, our small towns, and our businesses.

📢 We will be closed for the day on Wednesday, February 5th so our staff can head to Topeka to stand up for our pharmacy and our patients! We’ll tell lawmakers to make sure people can get their medicine, stop pharmacies from closing, and fix unfair PBM rules.
💊 What’s Happening?
Big companies called PBMs decide how we get medicine to you. They make it hard for small
pharmacies to stay open by paying us less than what we pay for the medicine. They also take
back money with tricky rules.
If nothing changes this year, closures like ours could last forever. Pharmacies that stay open
can’t safely take care of all the extra prescriptions from other pharmacies closing. Mail-order services also take too long or don’t keep medicine safe, which could hurt patients.
đź’Š How You Can Help:
â—Ź Tell lawmakers why your local pharmacy is important.
â—Ź Help us fight for fair rules so everyone can get the medicine they need.
Let’s protect our local pharmacies and stand up for fair treatment!

🚨 Attention UHC Medicaid Patients! 🚨

Our pharmacy is no longer in the United HealthCare Medicaid network for pharmacy services. Please note, we are still in network with UHC Commercial and Medicare plans. Sadly, United HealthCare did not send out letters to let patients know about this change, even though they were supposed to under their agreement with KanCare. But don’t worry—there are ways you can speak up and take action!

📞 Call 877-542-9238 to file a complaint about your access to care. Tell them you want us back in the Medicaid network. Their agreement requires that Medicaid services be just as available as services for others in the same area. If you need help filing your complaint, you can contact the KanCare Ombudsman at 1-855-643-8180 for assistance.

🔄 Switch your KanCare coverage. You can change to Sunflower or Healthy Blue by calling 866-305-5147 this week. Explain that your pharmacy is no longer covered and you want to stay with us. You can also request a change for “cause,” like not having access to needed services or providers, and ask for the change to happen immediately.

We’re so grateful for your support as we work to protect your right to choose your pharmacy and get the care you deserve. Together, we can make a real difference! 💙
