Spring is here and pollen is in the air!
Lots of patients have been suffering from seasonal allergies recently.
Today, our pollen levels are moderate in Cottonwood. You may be noticing symptoms currently if you are sensitive to juniper, mulberry or ash.
Here are a few tips from Dr. Amy to help you enjoy spring with less sneezing and sniffling:
π§ Use a humidifier - adding moisture to the dry, desert air helps dust and pollen fall to the ground so it is less likely to irritate your airways.
π¨ Vacuum frequently to remove irritants from your environment.
ποΈ Change your bedding weekly. Change pillowcases a few times per week.
π¬οΈ Change your household air filters at least every 3 months.
π³ Find out which pollens aggravate you to help limit exposure. Check pollen.com to see what pollens are active in your area. Then identify and try to remove the aggravating plants from your surroundings.
π Nasal irrigation is a great way to rinse pollen and irritants from your nose and sinuses. Try a neti pot or a Navage nasal irrigation device.
π₯ Eat nutrient dense food to supply your body with the ingredients it needs to function properly.
π¦ Proper hydration will help thin mucus secretions so the mucus can be excreted from your body.
π Avoid added sugars, artificial sweeteners and processed sugars. Keep eating fruits and veggies!
π₯ Dairy is a glycoprotein (sugar/lactose + protein/casein). It contains the exact ingredients your body needs to make mucus. Avoid milk if you are dealing with excess mucus.
