At Midlands, we often welcome residents who come to us for rehab and recovery after experiencing sepsis. We know how overwhelming this illness can be, not only for the individual, but for their families as well.

Sepsis is a serious medical condition that can develop quickly from infections and, if untreated, may lead to septic shock. That’s why early recognition is so important.

After hospitalization, many people need time to rebuild strength and regain independence. At Midlands, our compassionate team provides the support, therapy, and daily care needed to help residents heal and feel like themselves again.

Together, through awareness and education, we can save lives and bring hope to those impacted.

Sunday 9/21 is Grandparents Day! To celebrate, we’re planning a reading group where younger kids can come in and read to our residents, sharing laughter, stories, and connection across generations. And of course, we’ll be serving some yummy snacks to enjoy together.

Do you have a grandparent at Midlands? Share your favorite picture of you with them in the comments! We’ll be printing these out and hanging them on our bulletin board to create a beautiful tribute to grandparents everywhere.

Grandparents are the keepers of traditions, the tellers of stories, and the givers of unconditional love. Today, we honor them with gratitude and joy.

Calling all car enthusiasts!

Midlands is excited to host the Memory Lane Car Show on September 19th and we’re looking for car owners who’d love to showcase their vehicles!

This event isn’t just about cars; it’s about connecting with the community and coming together for a cause. Whether you’ve got a classic beauty, a hot rod, or something unique, we’d love to have you join us.

Your participation helps raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s while creating an unforgettable day for our residents and community.

Interested in bringing a car? Drop us a message or comment below. We’d love to save you a spot on Memory Lane!

The last Friday of every month, we’re lucky to welcome Scatter Joy Acres for one-on-one visits with our residents and it’s always a highlight!

While many of our activities are done in groups, visits from Scatter Joy Acres offer something a little different. Residents get the chance to spend one-on-one time with the animals, creating quiet, meaningful moments of connection.

These visits bring so much joy and calmness. It’s a beautiful reminder of how powerful and personal animal companionship can be.

Thank you, Scatter Joy Acres, for making space for these special moments each month.

Our Social Worker’s daughter, Natalia, pops in often to visit our residents. They adore her and recently got to meet her (rather plump and spoiled) bearded dragon! 🤣 💚

We are thrilled to announce that Tracy, our Director of Nursing, is progressing steadily in her recovery from an invasive surgery. While she still faces a challenging healing process, we are confident that her strength and determination will ultimately lead to a full recovery. The extraordinary level of community support we are seeing is a testament to the compassion and generosity of our community, and we are deeply grateful.
Here's an update on our fundraising efforts:
⭐️ Our Meal Train has provided Tracy with 10 homemade meals and $860 so far. (If you’d like to contribute this way, the link can be found in the comments of this post.)
⭐️ Heather Wolf, LPN at MLC, generously baked and decorated a custom cake for Tracy.
⭐️ ⭐️ Our latest initiative, Samantha our HR Coordintor has started a t-shirt campaign with Anytime Tees, that is now live! $14 from every t-shirt sale will be donated to Tracy. Please follow the link to purchase your t-shirt today! ⬇️⬇️

We had the pleasure of welcoming a special visitor today! Meet Maggie, Dr. McCool's daughter, who happily volunteered her time to take Elsa around to see our residents. Like her mom, Maggie clearly has a natural talent for providing comfort and joy to our residents. We are already anticipating her next visit!
If you’re interested in having your child spread joy to our residents through volunteering, reach out to Aleeshia in our Activity Department. We would be happy to have them!

We are happy to share that our Elsa-Girl is feeling much better! We are past meds and syringe feedings! She’s back to greeting visitors and being active.
Here’s a few Holland Lop facts for the fun of it:
⭐️ Holland Lops who are kept indoors live up to 14 years old! (Elsa is 4 and has been at MLC since she was a few months old. She was originally a show bunny.)
⭐️ 80% of their diet is hay (Elsa also gets 2 pellet feedings of 1/4 cup each).
⭐️ Their teeth never stop growing, making hay consumption and toys vital to their health.
⭐️ Lop eared rabbits are almost all hard of hearing or deaf.
⭐️ They lack the ability to vommit.
⭐️ Rabbits are social animals and tend to bond with their owners.

Around here, we don’t just play games—we compete!

Our residents have been having a blast with some seriously fun activities:

✅ Giant Tic Tac Toe – Bigger board, bigger moves, bigger laughs!

🎣 Pool Noodle Fishing – Who knew pool noodles could be this competitive?

🐎 Derby Races – Twister board + racing energy = crowd favorite!

It’s been a joy to see everyone get involved.

Have a fun game idea we should try? Drop it in the comments, we're always up for something new!
