Members of the Southwest Iowa Pharmacists Association- if you live or practice in Iowa, we need your IMMEDIATE help! There is a PBM Bill in the Iowa Legislature--please contact your state representative THIS WEEK!
HSB 685 includes provisions to reform MAC pricing, prohibit retroactive fees imposed by PBMs, and ban spread pricing
If you live or practice in Iowa, this information is especially important:
Earlier this week, I spoke with State of Iowa Representative John Forbes, RPh, of Urbandale, Iowa, who asked for our support of HSB 685.
More information is below, but in brief, the bill would prohibit retroactive fees (DIR's) imposed by PBMs. As many of you know, DIRs are putting many pharmacies out of business, and are impacting pharmacists' salaries.
The bill was APPROVED earlier this week by the House subcommittee to which it was assigned.
This bill presents us with the opportunity to let the legislature know how PBMs have decimated our profession, and to ask for our legislators' support in this fight as we go forward.
It is critical that you contact your State of Iowa Representative to ask him/her to support this bill.
Your comments to your representative can be brief, but it is essential that you contact him/her by phone, email, letter, etc, THIS WEEK! Even a one or two sentence email to your representative would be extremely helpful to getting this bill passed.
If you do not know who your state representative is, go to https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislators/find and search by entering your address.
Then, your can find your representative's contact information by clicking on your representative's link.
IMPORTANT--do not contact your Senator at this time, just your representative.
Here is what I sent to my state representative:
Mary Ann,
The other pharmacists in our area and I would appreciate your support for HSB 685 when it is discussed by the full House. The practices of PBMs have hurt both large and small pharmacies in our area, and this bill would help to ensure that patients will continue to have access to the health care and medications they need.
Thank you for your consideration,
