An IL 501(c)3 dedicated to helping children & young adults with disabilities reach their potential.

The mission of the Center for Independence is to help children and young adults with disabilities achieve their highest level of independence in the home, school, community and workforce. We provide therapy programs that develop life skills and motor function in a manner that promotes positive self-reliance, self-esteem and an “I Can!” attitude. Committed to breaking down barriers to the workforce, the Center also provides job linkage and placement for young adults with disabilities through our innovative program, Working Together Chicago.

Last Friday, some of our staff attended the Early Detection of Cerebral Palsy in Early Intervention: Collaboration, Tools and Training Conference. This valuable experience equipped them with the latest tools, strategies and collaborative approaches to support early identification and intervention.

We’re proud to invest in ongoing educatjon that helps us better serve children and families in our community!

This past weekend in Colorado, CFI participants Colleen and Justin along with 15 other athletes from across the US gathered at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training center to try out for the team that will represent the United States at the 2026 World Boccia Tournament in Alabama this summer!

It has been so fun to have these two take time to teach and spend time with our younger participants during therapy, sharing their skills, experiences and love for the game. Watching them teach, encourage and inspire is what the CFI community is all about!

Good Luck Colleen and Justin, we hope we get to cheer you both on this summer at the Tournament! We cant wait to see where your journey takes you next. 💚❤️💙

We’re excited to share a fundraising event that we are lucky to be chosen as the beneficiary this year.

On Sunday, February 1st, starting at 11:30 AM, at Hawthorne’s Backyard, in West Chicago, they will be hosting their annual Turkey Bowling event—turning a parking lot into an outdoor bowling alley where teams knock down pins using frozen turkeys. Yes, really! 🦃🎳
