What’s happening today? Are they donuts? No, not quite!
I have a client coming in for a netra basti treatment this afternoon!

This is an ancient practice of using lukewarm ghee to nourish and hydrate the eye itself along with the surrounding tissues. The dough basti is placed around each eye to contain the ghee.
Helpful for dryness, tired eyes from overwork or too much screen time.

Herbal teas for optimal hydration. Today I am enjoying nettle, rooibos, and mint sun tea. Minerals and relaxation in a cup! 🍵
Another delicious blend I have is lavender, rosemary, and lemon balm. Cognition boosting, memory enhancing, and soothing for digestion. Delicious & beneficial in a myriad of ways!

Lately I’m feeling crafty! The season has inspired me to create handmade herbal tea bags. So far I have calendula rose and lavender mint.

In addition to being wonderful as tea, they also handy for making infused waters. Staying hydrated is important always and especially in the heat of summer!☀️💦🌱

Calendula has antioxidant properties as well as being soothing for digestion. 🌼

Rose is nurturing for the heart and uplifting for the spirit🌹

Lavender helps decrease anxiety and improve sleep quality. 💤

Mint is calming for the nervous system and decongestiing.🍃

According to ayurveda summer is the domain of pitta dosha which is composed of Fire and Water. 🔥 💧
Its qualities are hot, sharp, liquid, mobile and light

While pitta is focused and energetic, too much heat and activity can lead to irritability, hear related issues, and burnout.
Cooling cucumbers, sweet fruits, coconut water, and herbal teas are ideal choices for this time of year. 🥥🥒🍓 🍋‍🟩

Lifestyle tips:
Swimming in cool bodies of water
Rose water spray
Avoid over scheduling yourself
Stay out of the midday sun
Hydrate
Do not skip meals

As we step into autumn, the balancing point of light and darkness, can you feel the shift in your body? I notice an inner quiet, a sense of turning inward, and a deepening of intuition. Vata dosha presides over the autumn season, it can be felt in the crisp chill in the air and the dryness of our bodies as we retreat indoors and begin turning on heaters.
This is the time to nourish ourselves by turning inward and focusing on daily routines which harmonize body, mind, and spirit. As the prime mover bringing prana(life force) into the body, vata in balance is creative, friendly, and on the move. Out of balance may bring feelings of exhaustion, ungroundedness, and scattered thoughts. To restore balance we can bring in warmth with a cup of tea, warm socks, or a relaxing bath. Also wonderful is the grounding influence of hot soup, roasted root vegetables, or an apple crisp right out of the oven! Additional supportive practices include sitting quietly in meditation for a few minutes and/or doing a few rounds of pranayama(breath work).
This is an ideal time to cleanse the body. Removing processed foods, white flour, and white sugar can go a long way towards restoring energy levels, optimizing digestion, and improving sleep. Have you heard of kitchari- the ayurvedic one pot meal? It is traditionally a cleanse food made of basmati rice, mung beans, veggies, and spices. It is nourishing and easy to digest.
