"Honor to the Soldier, and Sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor also to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field, and serves, as best he can, the same cause—honor to him, less only than to him, who braves, for the common good, the storms of heaven and the storms of battle.” —Abraham Lincoln

We owe our gratitude to all of the men and women that served and protected our nation, and a special salute to those heroes who continue protecting us today🙏.-CVEC

Cataract Lens Implants FAQ

How do lens implants help cataracts?

Cataracts occur when the lens, which lies behind the iris starts to cloud overdue to changes in its protein structure. This impairs your vision and can ultimately lead to preventable blindness. If you're considering cataract surgery, you know it's an important decision. Once you've decided to have the surgery, however, there's another important choice to make: which type of intraocular lens (IOL) to have implanted.
Would you like to enjoy freedom from glasses after surgery, or are you fine with wearing glasses? Do you have astigmatism? Is cost an issue? These are the sorts of questions you'll need to consider as you begin thinking about IOL options.

WHAT IS A HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT?

A Health Savings Account, or HSA, is a unique, tax-advantaged account that can be used to pay for current or future healthcare expenses. When combined with a high-deductible health plan, it offers savings and tax advantages that a traditional health plan can't duplicate. With an HSA, members will have:

A tax-advantaged savings account: that they can use to pay for eligible medical expenses as well as deductibles, co-insurance, prescriptions, vision expenses, and dental care.

Unused funds that will roll over year to year. There's no "use it or lose it" penalty.

The potential to build more savings in self-directed investment options.

Additional retirement savings. After age 65, funds can be withdrawn for any purpose without penalty, but may be subject to income tax if not used for IRS-qualified medical expense.

Cataract FAQ
What is a cataract?
A cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens of your eye. Looking through a cloudy lens is like trying to see through a frosty or fogged-up window. Clouded vision can make it more difficult to read and drive a car — especially at night. Most cataracts develop slowly, and as the clouding progresses, the cataract eventually interferes with your vision. Early on, stronger lighting and eyeglasses can help you deal with the vision changes. If impaired vision interferes with your normal lifestyle, though, you’ll need surgery. Fortunately, cataract removal is generally a safe, effective procedure.

What are cataract symptoms?

Symptoms of cataracts include:

Clouded, blurred, or dim vision

Increasing difficulty with vision at night

Sensitivity to light and glare

Halos around lights

The need for brighter light for reading and other activities

Frequent changes in eyeglasses or contact lens prescription

Fading or yellowing of colors

What is the treatment for cataracts?
Today, because surgical techniques have improved and the risks from cataract surgery are much lower, our doctor generally recommend surgery when cataracts begin to affect your quality of life or interfere with your ability to perform normal daily activities. Cataract surgery is highly successful; of the 1.3 million people who undergo it, 95% report significant improvements in vision following the procedure.

How is the cataract removed?
Our doctors use the most advanced surgical technique available to remove cataracts: no-shot anesthesia along with no-stitch and no-patch surgery. It's generally done on an outpatient basis, usually with local anesthesia. The incision is sutureless and the lens is removed with an instrument and machine that uses high-frequency sound waves to break up the lens and suction it out. Our doctors then inserts an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) of your choice. The surgery typically lasts less than 30 minutes and you return home the same day as the procedure. You’ll be given drops to use at home until the next day’s examination.

What are my options for intraocular lens implantation?
You’ll discuss your specific needs with our doctors.
