The Speech Language Pathology Assistant position requires specialized subject matter expertise in communication disorders and impairments, works under the direction of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist, and works in a clinic setting with a variety of language disorders.
Compensation
**Based on Experience**
Supervision and Support
Supervision is provided by a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. Clinic scheduling is done by the administrative staff.
Duites
The following specification provides a summary of the typical job duties performed, along with the general nature and level of work performed by employees in this classification. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Prepares and conducts therapy activities involving picture cards, worksheets, charts, games, and the utilization of computerized therapy applications and devices that facilitate the achievement of speech and language goals as documented in the treatment plans or protocols.
Prepares augmented alternative communication software, devices, and/or equipment and assists students for their use in therapy activities.
Documents student progress towards meeting goals and objectives by preparing progress reports, records, assessment and screening notes, or other informal documentation.
Attends and participates in in-service training sessions, workshops, and staff meetings
Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge:

Articulation disorders and rehabilitation methods
English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar

Physical Demands:
Lifts objects up to 10 pounds, unassisted, to provide students with personal hygiene care, physical care, school supplies, and/or other related items
Sits to assist clients in therapy tasks
Carries objects up to 10 pounds, unassisted, therapy supplies, and/or other related items
Rotates head left and right from a neutral position to monitor, supervise, and/or attend to clients
Moves head forward and backward from a neutral position to assist students with therapy tasks
Grasps and grips with hands to hold and move clients, medical equipment, therapy supplies, and/or other related items
Uses hands, wrists, and fingers repetitively to keyboard clients progress/SOAP notes
Exchanges information with clients and staff, and parents
Uses near visual acuity at 20 inches or less to facilitate therapy instruction, safety, and other related areas
Monitor arrival of clients and walk to retrieve them from waiting room
Work Environment:
The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions.

Qualifications
Experience: None
Education:
An Associates of Arts (AA) degree and a certificate of completion of a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant's program from an institution of higher learning accredited by CSHA.
Additional Requirements/Information: Possession of valid registration as a Speech/Language Pathology Assistant with the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board.
A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation.
