Thank you for your prayers and support over the past two weeks.

We are heartbroken to share that our friend and patient Dr. Mark Batzer passed away earlier this week, before he was able to receive a heart transplant. Dr. Batzer was a world-renowned geneticist, internationally recognized for his pioneering work in genomics and molecular evolution. As founder and director of the Batzer Laboratory at LSU, his research significantly advanced understanding of mobile DNA elements and their role in human evolution and disease. His contributions reshaped the field and influenced generations of researchers worldwide.

My dear friend and a patient of Louisiana Heart and Vascular Institute for more than 20 years is in urgent need of a heart transplant. Mark’s journey has touched so many of us, and right now he needs the power of prayer, hope, and community more than ever.

We ask you to join us in praying for a perfect donor heart to become available, for the medical team providing their care, and for peace and strength for Mark and his wife Pam during this incredibly difficult time.

Your prayers matter. Your compassion matters. And together, we believe miracles are possible.

Today, our daughter Mila Aduli was chosen by Governor Jeff Landry as Youth of the Year for her outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to disability inclusion.

Mila, your heart for others and your courage to stand up for what is right continue to inspire everyone around you. You remind us that leadership isn’t just about achievement — it’s about compassion, advocacy, and service.

As we celebrate this tremendous honor, we’re reminded of the beautiful words from Matthew 25:40:

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

This verse speaks to the very core of why serving others matters. When we lift up those who are overlooked, when we choose kindness, and when we work for inclusion, we are living out the kind of love God calls us to show.
