It is with tremendous sadness that we share the passing of Steve Gerding, beloved son of Judi and Gene Gerding, and brother of Jill Disken, Scott Gerding, and the late Linda Grome. Steve passed away on Wednesday, April 1, surrounded by his loving family.
Steve was a die-hard Cincinnati Reds fan, a passionate music lover, and a true trivia guru—someone who brought joy, humor, and connection to those around him. More than that, Steve was the heart behind something much bigger.
At a young age, Steve was diagnosed with Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome. His journey became the catalyst for Judi’s mission to create a better, more inclusive world—not only for him, but for countless others. From that love and determination, The Point Arc was born.
Because of Steve, The Point Arc has grown into an organization that now serves more than 1,400 individuals and families each year—providing opportunities, dignity, independence, and community for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He is, and will always be, at the very root of everything we do.
While we mourn this tremendous loss, we also honor the incredible legacy Steve leaves behind. His life continues to inspire our mission and will live on through every life we touch.
Steve will be profoundly missed, but never forgotten.
Funeral arrangements will be shared as they become available. In the meantime, we ask that you keep Judi and Gene, Jill and Andy, Scott and Laurie, Tom Grome, and their children and great-grandchildren in your thoughts and prayers.
