The Point/Arc of Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati

The Point/Arc of Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati Proudly serving Northern Kentucky since 1972! The Point/Arc was created in 1972 as a parent group with no budget.

The Point/Arc provides opportunities to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) to reach their highest potential educationally, residentially, socially and vocationally. It's since grown to a holistic, full-service agency with a wide range of around the clock programs for individuals with a variety of disabilities, from down syndrome to autism to many one of a kind diagnoses. The Point/Arc offers advocacy, case management, day care, educational, residential, vocational and social opportunities. The Point/Arc currently serves more than 1,500 people through its programs and services. The Point/Arc is always looking for new ways to fill in the service gaps and to integrate individuals with I/DD in the community to reach their fullest potential. The Point/Arc owns and operates four social enterprises to generate operating cash back to the programs, and to train and employ individuals with I/DD, including Point Perk, The Point Apparel, The Point Commercial Laundry and The Point Commercial Cleaning. Education and employment services offered through The Point/Arc include:
- Social Communication
- Transition programs
- Pre-vocational skills training
- Team building intensive program and alumni group
- Employment program
- Advocacy
- Everybody Counts program

The Point/Arc owns twelve group homes, providing a nurturing, stable and secure environment to approximately 50 individuals, allowing them to develop their maximum potential. The Residential Program serves people based on their individual needs and is "best practice" driven. Our goal is to create opportunities for the individuals we support to become contributing and inclusive members of their community. The Point/Arc holds weekly events for individuals, including game nights, karaoke, arts and crafts, movie nights and themed dances. We also offer ways to become more active, such as basketball, bowling and softball. Throughout the year, we offer week-long and weekend vacations. Getting involved in the Social Programs is a great way to maintain friendships and meet new people.

It is with tremendous sadness that we share the passing of Steve Gerding, beloved son of Judi and Gene Gerding, and brother of Jill Disken, Scott Gerding, and the late Linda Grome. Steve passed away on Wednesday, April 1, surrounded by his loving family.

Steve was a die-hard Cincinnati Reds fan, a passionate music lover, and a true trivia guru—someone who brought joy, humor, and connection to those around him. More than that, Steve was the heart behind something much bigger.

At a young age, Steve was diagnosed with Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome. His journey became the catalyst for Judi’s mission to create a better, more inclusive world—not only for him, but for countless others. From that love and determination, The Point Arc was born.

Because of Steve, The Point Arc has grown into an organization that now serves more than 1,400 individuals and families each year—providing opportunities, dignity, independence, and community for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He is, and will always be, at the very root of everything we do.

While we mourn this tremendous loss, we also honor the incredible legacy Steve leaves behind. His life continues to inspire our mission and will live on through every life we touch.

Steve will be profoundly missed, but never forgotten.

Funeral arrangements will be shared as they become available. In the meantime, we ask that you keep Judi and Gene, Jill and Andy, Scott and Laurie, Tom Grome, and their children and great-grandchildren in your thoughts and prayers.
