Meet Joni! She serves as a hospice volunteer for LHC Group in Aiken, SC. Joni, much like LHCG, is fueled by the mission of helping people. Therapy and hospice careers at LHC Group offer opportunities for specialized care, including music therapy. Music therapists help patients with illnesses or disabilities improve their well-being through music listening, improvisation, songwriting, instruments, and more. One of our music therapists, Kaitlyn, shared a heartwarming story of a special musical connection with one of her patients impacted by dementia.

Kaitlyn learned that the patient and her husband had a special bond over music and guitar playing. Through playing and harmonizing songs with the patient’s husband, Kaitlyn was able to deeply connect with the patient, even getting the patient’s feet to swing to the music!
