”And so we step into May Day also know as Beltane.
The day when nature is celebrated for being in her fullness; fertile and unfurling.
A passion is evoked in the air as the sun and earth wrap each other in their arms and create life. A great surge of spring is being birthed in hedgerows, forests and hillsides, colours are emerging more vibrant and beautiful than before, bees are buzzing and the song of birds seems to be amplified across the valleys.
The days are now lengthening and the forest is adorning itself in a beautiful array of greens.
We are now stepping through the gateway into the lighter sunnier part of the Celtic year.
This doorway or gateway of homecoming was always believed to be represented by the strong Oak; king of the forest, sun tree, home to many in the forest and a great protector.
This is a time to step over this threshold, through the gateway and into the light.
As you step into this day ponder as to what is needed to be laid aside, to be put down, to be grieved over so you can step forth more fully. This was and is a day that is used to make vows to yourself, to how you would like to look after yourself, come home to yourself and greet yourself back; from the darker times, into your own arms and the beauty of nature.”

Henbit has been used as a medicinal herb for centuries. It is anti-rheumatic and anti-inflammatory, so it's great for relieving chronic pain, soreness, and stiffness. As a diaphoretic and febrifuge, it's great for breaking fevers and alleviating their unpleasantness.

While I can not claim to know much about these claims, I do know that henbit is full of vitamins and minerals like iron and vitamins A, K and C. All aerial parts are edible, so you can throw them in a salad or make a tea out of them.
Though henbit is mint family, that does not mean it’s got mint’s characteristic, Henbit is decidedly green in flavor like a earthy flavor.

Most biologists consider henbit a naturalized w**d, at this point. That said, it tends to grow in open field and lawns, so the lawn industry and big Ag do have a dog in that fight and consider it ‘invasive’. But for us holistic foragers we love this magical plant.

Besides its incredible medicinal qualities, Henbit also has another important feature. It’s nature’s kazoo. You can pluck the little flowers and blow on them like a bugle, which is how it gets it’s other common name: Fairy Horns.

Best way to preserve this magical plant is to wash and dehydrate it and can last up to 2 years in a sealed container!!! Best used for teas also can be used fresh on a salad!

MAYAPPLE

This plant is not something typically found in manicured gardens, but if you are fortunate enough to have some growing nearby they make an excellent addition to local habitats for our wildlife.

Mayapple Podophyllum peltatum
Berberidacea Native distribution to eastern and Central North America

Poisonous description
Mayapple contains the toxins alpha- and beta- peltatin and podophylloresin. Ingesion of mayapple foliage, roots, or unripe fruit or seeds leads to severe purging gastroenteritis accompanied by vomiting. The least poisonous part of the plant is the ripe fruit, although it can have a cathartic effect.

Cultivation
Typically 1-2' tall plant with one to two umbrella-like leaves and a single nodding white flower.
Light: part sun to shade
Moisture and Soil: moist to wet soil

Propagation
Seed Treatment and Storage: remove pulp; keep moist; cold/moist stratify. Only plants with two leaves (older) will flower.

Wildlife value
Mayapple flowers are pollinated by bumble bees and other long-tongued bees, which collect pollen and may extract nectar. The larvae of a sawfly, Aglaostigma quattuordecimpunctatum, feed on the foliage. Box turtles eat the ripe fruit, as may small mammals. Most mammalian herbivores avoid the toxic foliage and unripe fruit.

I myself do not use this plant but have them all over my property for the wildlife!!!

Today I'll be talking to yall about motherwort.

First I want to list cautious- do not take while pregnant or breastfeeding. Motherwort can stimulate the uterus and might cause a miscarriage. There isn't enough information on using while breastfeeding, but it is considered unsafe.

Leonurus cardiaca, known as motherwort is an herbaceous perennial plant in the mint family. Other common names include throw-wort, lion's ear, and lion's tail. Lion's tail is a common name for Leonotis leonurus and lion's ear is a common name for Leonotis nepetifolia.

It is often mistaken for hogw**d, Mugwart artemisia, artemisia vulgaris, wormwood and common ragw**d.

It has been used since ancient times. It can be found anywhere from the roadside to burial grounds.

A legend of a village that got all its water from a spring that had patches of motherwort. They drank it everyday and was believed to have lived over one hundred years old.

Holistic properties of this plant includes-

It helps with menstruation. It promotes regular and symptom-free menstrual cycle. It can also help with pretty menstrual pain.

It is a key remedy for palpitations and irregular heartbeats. It is link to help with anxiety related heart irregularity.

It can help with lowering blood pressure and is considered a relaxant.

It can also help to stop bleeding.

Key information-

Safty of this plant has a 4 out of 5 star rating.

Harvesting the top 1/3rd of the motherswort plant in bloom.
You only want to harvest the top 1/3rd because it will keep producing through the summer.

It is best taken by infusions, tincture and capsule. Is often used with cramp bark.

I personally use motherswort in bath teas I make. Here is a recipe list for a relaxing bath tea for anxiety relief and also when your having a rather horrible menstrual cycle.
1 part Himalayan salt " 1 to 2 cups"
1 part epson salt "1 to 2 cups"
2 table spoons of motherwort
2 table spoons of lavender
1 smal palm full of mint
2 tablespoons of skullcap
I put my directly into the water but you can put them in a muslin bag for less clean up.

Lambsquarter also know as "white goosefoot" is a source of food that can be considered a staple, it is also an extremely valuable medicine.

Warning-
Lamb's quarters contain oxalic acid, when raw it is best to eat in small quantities. Cooking removes the oxalic acid.

Lambs quarter are an annual wild, but edible member of the Amaranthaceae family.
It was once thought native to Europe. With recent studies, it show that the seeds were used by the Blackfoot Indian tribe in sixteenth century.

Medical and other facts-
When the leaves are made into a green paste it can be applied to the body for insect bites, minor scrapes, injuries, inflammation, and sunburn.
The greens are beneficial for soothing arthritic joint pain. When made into a paste you can place it directly on the sensitive areas.

Lamb's quarter can be eaten in salads or added to smoothies and juices.

The seeds of lamb's quarter make a highly nutritious food staple for multiple recipes. Harvested in the fall is the best. It can be ground into cereal or used as flour for bread.
Comparable to quinoa, lambsquarter seeds can easily sprouted in one to two days. which makes it a easy plant to grow.

A tea of the leaves are beneficial for diarrhea, inflammation, stomach pain, and loss of appetite.
The tea can also be used as a wash to heal irritated skin and other skin issues. Soaking your body in a bath with lambsquarter leaves will aid by toning and tightening the tissues of your skin.

Some varieties are easy to harvest and separate the outter lining. while others can be quite difficult.
separate the seed from the outer layer. Always taste the wild grains alone before adding any seasoning, it helps you to get the true taste.
This will help you to not overeat, and get sick.

Recipe of the day
Vegan pesto
Ingredient
1 cup wild garlic
1 cup baby spinachabout
1 cup mixed wild greens
1/2 cup raw cashews
1/2 cup flaked almonds
1 Tbsp nutritional yeast
1 lemon juiced
1/8 tsp ground white pepper
1/4 tsp Himalayan salt
1/4 cup EVOO

It is a very useful "w**d" indeed. I hope this little bit of information has helped shed some light on a very underestimated plant!!!

Today I want to share the magic of healing salve with yall. I've been making this for a few years now and wanted to show you pictures of just how well it works. The top pictures is just moments after a friend of mine had taken a tumble. They put on some of the healing salve I had made for them. Now the magical part the second pictures is just 24 hours after the incident happened.
Natural medicine is such a beautiful thing. I know some are skeptical but maybe this will shed some light on the doubt!!!! Another batch is on its way as you can see in the jar. 30 days to soak in oil then strained and added to natural bees wax. Sending lots of love and healing to everyone!!!!
