🔷 NECK PAIN: 𝗖𝗔𝗨𝗦𝗘𝗦 & 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 🔷

Neck pain is common and can interfere with daily activities and reduce your quality of life if left untreated. It can feel like a persistent ache, stabbing/burning pain, headache, or increased muscular tension.

Common activities that are well-known for causing repetitive stress on the neck include:

🔹Texting
🔸Reading
🔹Sitting for long periods in awkward postions
🔸Sleeping

People whose jobs can trigger neck pain include:

🔸First responders
🔹Nurses/Doctors
🔸Writers
🔹Desk workers
🔸Truckers

COMMON CAUSES:

🔹Overuse from repetitive actions or strenuous activities, or too many hours hunched over a computer or a smartphone.

🔹Tension from stress commonly causes neck pain and stiffness

🔹Poor posture

PREVENTION TIPS:

🔹 Adjust your desk, chair and computer so that the monitor is at eye level.

🔹 Take frequent breaks. If you travel long distances or work long hours at your computer, get up, move around, and stretch your neck and shoulders.

🔹 Avoid carrying heavy bags with straps over your shoulder. The weight can strain your neck.

🔹Sleep in a position that keeps your head and neck aligned with your body. Use a small pillow under your neck.

If you experience recurring neck pain, consider booking a massage to address the issue directly. And remember to STAY ACTIVE!

“No days off” isn’t always the best approach.

Here are 5 signs that you might need a rest day! 🚨

🔷 SHARP, LOCALIZED PAIN

This type of pain:

- prevents you from moving comfortably
- restricts your mobility
- impacts your ability to do daily tasks.
- can be caused by a tear, stress fracture, or aggravating an old injury

If you’re feeling this, it means you should REST.

🔷 ACHY JOINTS

Soreness or aching in your joints can indicate that your muscles aren’t absorbing the force properly.

And that the soft tissue around your joints is absorbing too much.

It can also be attributed to pre-existing injuries.

🔷 LACK OF QUALITY SLEEP

Sleep affects your energy level, mood, and performance.

It allows your body to restore, rebuild and recover.

If you’re not getting enough sleep, and feeling fatigue, it’s no surprise that you need a rest day.

🔷 OVERTRAINING

It’s not always easy to tell whether you’ve trained too much.

✅ Track your workouts and check your training history to monitor your level of activity throughout the week.

👇🔷 ROTATOR CUFF INJURY: CAUSES & PREVENTION 🔷

The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint for support and stabilization. An injury may limit your ability to move your arm, or cause pain or a dull ache in the shoulder and upper arm, especially when reaching up or out.

Common sports and activities that are well-known for causing repetitive stress on the shoulder include:

🔹Tennis
🔸Baseball
🔹Golf
🔸Swimming

People whose occupations require the types of repetitive shoulder movements that can lead to injury include:

🔸Construction workers
🔹Painters
🔸Carpenters
🔹Assembly workers
🔸Decorators

COMMON CAUSES:

🔹Repetitive overhead activity.

🔹Heavy lifting over a prolonged period of time.

🔹Aging, with degeneration of the tissues.

PREVENTION TIPS:

🔹 Strengthen the rotator cuff. (Reverse flys, side arm raises, internal/external rotations)

🔹 Use a step stool or ladder to avoid reaching overhead.

🔹Desk workers: Set your work station up so that you can comfortably use your computer.

🔹Lift safely, using proper form and technique.
