Attention:

Exciting News! CWH will be switching to a new EMR system, ModMed. During this time as we are learning, we will be operating on a shortened clinic day 9/23/25 - 9/25/25 and there will be no afternoon clinic those days from 12-4pm. This also means we will not be available by phone during that time, however you may always still reach out if needed through your patient portal as usual, but if you have urgent or emergency needs we would advise you to go to your nearest emergency department. We thank you for your patience as we make this transition and look forward to offering our patients more services through this system. As always, thank you for being a part of the CWH family!

As we reflect, we’re reminded of the strength found in unity, compassion, and caring for one another — values we hold close every day at the Center for Women’s Health.

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. For Wear Teal Day, it is more than just a color—it’s a call to stand together, spark conversations, and bring attention to a disease that often goes unnoticed until it’s too late.

Because ovarian cancer symptoms are often subtle and there is still no reliable early screening, only 1 in 5 cases are found early. That means the vast majority—80% of women and individuals affected—are diagnosed at advanced stages, when treatment options are more limited.

By wearing teal, we’re not just showing support—we’re helping shine a light on the urgent need for awareness, research, and hope.

Let’s talk hormones, specifically, your s*x drive.

Dr. Williams is a strong advocate for transdermal (through-the-skin) estrogen—and here’s why:

As women hit their 40s, testosterone levels naturally drop, which can lead to a dip in libido. But here’s something many don’t realize:

Taking oral estrogen can make this worse. It increases something called s*x hormone-binding globulin (SHBG)—a protein that “locks up” your free testosterone, making it less available for your body to use.

That’s why Dr. Williams prefers transdermal estrogen—it supports your hormones without hijacking your testosterone levels.

💡Feeling off? Low energy, low libido, or just not like yourself? It might not be "just getting older." It could be your hormones, and we can help.

Hormones got you guessing? Let’s clear things up.

If you’re navigating perimenopause or menopause, getting the right hormone tests is crucial. Those extensive lab tests from non-OB/GYN clinics are not the answer.

In this quick video, Dr. Williams implores women to seek proper expertise so that they can take control of their health with confidence.

Summer isn't over yet! ☀️ Louisiana heat hits different, especially when you're pregnant or newly postpartum. Your skin is extra sensitive right now. That means sun care isn’t optional—it’s essential.

Here are a few quick tips to protect your glow:

👒 Choose shade & cover up – Wide-brimmed hats and lightweight, long sleeves go a long way.
🧴 Pick pregnancy-safe SPF – Look for mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
💧 Hydrate often – Staying cool and hydrated helps prevent overheating.
🕒 Avoid peak sun hours – Try to stay indoors between 10am–2pm when UV rays are strongest.
🌿 Don’t forget postpartum skin – Hormonal shifts can cause hyperpigmentation, and SPF helps prevent dark spots from getting worse.

Taking care of your skin is one more way to care for you during this special time.

A large part of losing weight and managing your health is NOT the medicine.
