With all the pool and beach time this time of year water can get trapped in the ear. Here are some helpful tips for relief! 💧💦🌊🏖

Got water trapped in your ear after a swim or shower?

It’s annoying—but resist the urge to stick anything inside your ear.

🚫 Cotton swabs
🚫 Fingers
🚫 Hairpins

These can push water deeper, damage your eardrum, or increase infection risk.

✅ Instead, try:

✔️ Tilting your head and tugging your earlobe
✔️ Yawning or chewing gum
✔️ Creating gentle suction with your palm
✔️ Warm compresses or low heat from a hair dryer
✔️ (If safe) Hydrogen peroxide or alcohol/vinegar drops

💡 If water doesn’t drain after a day or two, see a doctor.

Lots of birds to hear out there this time of year! 🐦🐥🦆🦅🦉

Age-related hearing loss can make it much harder to hear birdsong, which is a beloved sound for many people, especially birders. Fortunately, hearing aids and amplifiers can bring back the sounds of nature.

:🟡 Did you know earwax plays an important role in keeping your ears healthy?

While it protects against dust and bacteria, too much earwax can cause:

– Clogged ears
– Muffled hearing
– Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)

Most of the time, it can be safely removed at home—but if symptoms persist, see a healthcare provider.

🚫 And remember: Never use cotton swabs or stick anything in your ears to remove earwax. It can make things worse!

It’s been a busy few weeks here so we’re a little late to posting this. Dr. Gauthier and Corina attended a Sound Success training in May with our partners at Oticon. They brushed up on some of their patient counseling and did some networking with other audiologists from all around the country.
They also got to catch up with Ann. Ann is Atlantic Audiology’s secret weapon “employee’. She helps Dr. Gauthier with all of the business development workings here at AA. Thank you for all you do for us Ann!

🧠 What do Alzheimer’s disease and untreated hearing loss have in common?

More than you might think. The symptoms can be shockingly similar, and that’s why it’s so important to treat hearing loss early.

Just look at these parallels:

🔸 Depression, anxiety, disorientation
🔸 Memory struggles
🔸 Reduced communication
🔸 Inappropriate social responses
🔸 Defensiveness or negativity

These symptoms aren’t just “part of aging”...they might be signs that your brain is working overtime to compensate for hearing loss.

💡The good news? Hearing loss is treatable, and addressing it can reduce mental strain, boost communication, and help you feel more connected.

Let’s prioritize your brain and your hearing. Contact us to schedule a hearing test this June for Brain and Alzheimer’s Awareness Month!
