Last week, TechACCESS hosted the Assistive Technology Conference of New England, an event dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities through the use of assistive technologies.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in this event! This was our first in-person conference since 2020, and what an incredible return it was. We welcomed over 200 attendees, 38 vendors and expo participants, and hosted 21 sessions throughout the day. The energy was electrifying, and the smiles were everywhere.

We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, volunteers, attendees, speakers, and vendors/expo participants, as well as our amazing staff who helped make this day truly memorable.

A special shout-out to our AT Champion Award winner, James Litvack, and our keynote speaker, AJ Quetta, who both truly exemplify assistive technology at its best.

Thank you all for making ATCNE 2025 such a success!

Congratulation to ATEL Program’s James Litvack on being awarded the Assistive Technology Champion Award at TechACCESS’s Assistive Technology Conference of New England.

The Assistive Technology Champion Award is presented annually to an individual who promotes the use of assistive technology to empower people with disabilities, whether they are students, professionals, or community members.

James has been working with individuals with disabilities in some capacity for over 35 years. In addition, James uses his own experience with hearing loss to serve as a peer mentor, sharing his experiences and personal strategies on embracing technology.

James has been involved with the ATEL Program for most of those years in some capacity. James has been the chair of the ATEL Program Committee, a collaborator with RI Relay, and an invaluable program assistant doing everything from demonstrations and installations of telecommunication devices to helping older adults and individuals with disabilities learn how to navigate smart devices, including learning to use accessibility features and apps so that they are able to effectively communicate. In addition, James does presentations about Hearing Loss and AT and ATEL's services, including the opportunity to educate a group of 150 2nd year medical students at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University on technology for individuals with hearing loss.

As the world becomes increasingly dependent on technology it is essential that there be supports available to those who have any difficulty mastering the technology whether it be due to disabilities or a complete lack of exposure to technology. Many times, james encounters these individuals that are overwhelmed with learning how to use AT and want to give up, but with his superpowers of compassion, understanding and patience he is usually always successful!

Do you use AAC - or support someone who does?

Your voice matters, and now’s your chance to help show the world how AAC makes a difference. A new survey, conducted by research firm Augur, is gathering real-life experiences from AAC users, families, and caregivers to help build research that proves AAC works - and improve access for others.

You can take the online survey here > https://norst.at/d51egy

Let’s make sure every voice is heard. Thank you for being part of this!
